I didn’t tell what it would take to get there, I told (and am telling) you that the vast majority CAN’T and NEVER WOULD BE ABLE TO. You wrote “many people”. How many is “many”? Whatever number it is, it isn’t “every”. How tall are you? What’s your weight? Are you genetically predisposed towards benching? The vast majority of men are not, and WON’T EVER be able to bench near that. I think a 1.5x bodyweight bench is achievable for most dedicated lifters, but 350 is such an arbitrary number and discounts so many individual factors that it just sounds silly.
Do you have amnesia?
Other than myself, there was one or two other guys in the gym at the same time that could bench 400 plus every time I went in. Sounds like you’ve been in a small pond.
Do you? I know what I wrote, and you responded that it doesn’t take extreme dedication, just showing up 5-6 days a week, which is is ridiculous. You didn’t answer ANY of my questions, and now “many” turned into " one or two". Which is it? Two is double of one, and in no scenario does that constitute “many”. Small pond? I literally wrote that I live in one of the biggest cities in the country and have been around all walks of training life. I’ve been around more pro athletes than I can count and still haven’t seen more than 30-ish people EVER handle over 3 plates.
Please reread what I wrote. Every time I went into the gym, whatever time I went, there were one or two other 400+ benchers working out at the same time. There were about 10-12 regular members that benched 400+, additionally that gym had a lot of guests that were sometimes pretty strong as well. In total that gym probably had at least 30 or so people benching 350 or more.
In regards to profession athletes, I’m not sure how much professional badminton players bench, but most of the starters on my D3 college football team could bench at least 315. In fact, many guys on my high school team managed a 315 bench. In regards to a strength community, yes, you live in a small pond my friend. I’m not really sure what you have been doing in the gym for 17 years, but it has not been time well spent.
As for your questions about me, I’m 5’7" and first benched 350lbs weighing around 200lbs (I’m now 250lbs). I am not built for benching or powerlifting at all. I have thin bones and tiny joints. I made most of my progress with a very simple routine.
Just to blow your mind, here is a guy from my old gym that benches over 350 and he has barely been alive for 17 years, let alone been lifting that long:
I’m not disagreeing with you, but this is a discussion about “every” and “average”, and that video shows an anomaly. It’s impressive, but it’s not applicable to this.
So,you’re in the exact type of gym I referenced yet you still argued… Also, you’re really short while also being incredibly heavy and claim not to be built for benching?! As the other poster pointed it, you post a vid of an anomaly to prove your point while your whole post actually proves mine. Good stuff.
Also, that kid juices🤦♂️.
I guess I’m just and incredible person, surrounded by incredible people. Here’s another kid from my gym, Dylan, with a clean 400lbs bench.
Dude you literally posted a video of David fuckin’ Laid as your analogy of “every guy”, don’t you get that videos of YouTube personalities on gear benching lots of weight does not help your point? Lots of people have made very good points here, including you, but you’re only hurting your argument posting these videos.
And you’re 5’7 250. Unless you’re an Orangutan, you’re built for benching.
You’re definitely not. You are apparently unaware that you’re proving my point with each post, which is pretty terrific🤝🏻.
You’ve been around the world training for 17 years and have only seen a few people that can bench 350lbs. I used to walk into my gym and see a few every day. I immediately showed you two that are hardly the strongest or biggest guys on the block. Maybe instead of focusing on how you will never achieve this miraculous feat, you should start finding ways to bench 350 yourself. I bet you could do it.
Don’t forget the tiny joints and bones. It’s all muscle.
Imo, posting in these types of threads is just like PWI, except nobody that posts in these threads will admit it…
Unfortunately, what goes on in one gym doesn’t reflect the rest of the world.
You immediately showed two that are juicing, and you go to a gym that’s exactly what I described in my earlier post. The fact that this hasn’t sunk in for you yet is astounding.
Surely in asking if it is possible for everyone, we assume PEDs will be used if needed? Otherwise the question becomes ‘is 350lbs bench possible for everyone if they’re completely natural?’ Same as what was mentioned about people becoming 400lbs to make it possible.
Average people are whiny, self-defeating little bitches who would still be Jason Blahah fanboys had he not gone and claimed he was an ex-CIA merc or whatever the fuck it was. Of course they’re never going to bench even 3 plates.
This is like someone who works in an NFL training facility say: “I see people at work that can both run the 40 in 4.4 seconds and squat 600 lbs any given day. You mean to tell me you’ve been working for 25+ years at your job and you’ve literally NEVER seen a coworker that?”
To your point, the strong are not evenly distributed. They are mostly clumped together in a few gyms. In my area (the Twin Cities), I would guess out of the 100 strongest people in PLing and Strong Man, that pretty much all of them go to only a couple of gyms, and only a few out of that 100 are in the typical globo gym.
I don’t think it is possible for every healthy male. At the same time, the effort put in by most people towards bench is pretty low. If pay was determined by how much one benches, I think far more than half would bench 350.
Are you saying a 400 bench isnt possible without drugs?
Im having a hard fucking time relating too this thread.
