People on these forums have done 405 ATG for 20, that’s more impressive to me.
I don’t know how to call bullshit as hard on this as it deserves.

1 set of 30 per exercise? that seems kinda odd. Me and my partner used to train a 30, 20, 15, rep style. 30 reps of anything is pretty damn brutal. makes you feel like a bitch doing alternating curls with 25lb DBs. Now we do more of a start off volume to get the blood flow, and then move into heavy to break shit up. We did chest today, with a 20, 15, 8, 6 rep style, which is also pretty effective so far.
I know its really strange. but its 1 set of thirty as absolutely as heavy as you can to prime for tomorrow. each day has a heavy and Light (prime) phase unless you are on the first or last day. and i was pretty skeptic of this workout and its reps until i saw the results for myself.

But what about all the people here who take in 4000+ kcals just to maintain? There’s so many of them too!
Nothing added size to my thighs better than the 30-rep ATG squat cycle I did a few years ago.
I did this while nursing an injured shoulder. I would squat 2x per week. Had to buy all new pants after that. But I couldn’t carry the cycle past 9 weeks, I became mentally burned out. Takes a lot of fortitude to do those 2x per week while adding weight every time.
I remember the last workout… I was too bored to do the normal 30 rep routine, so I put the equivalent of my bodyweight on the bar a did a straight set of 70 reps.
Nice way to finish a successful cycle.

Yeah, not to take anything away from dave tate, but those relativley high box squats for 30 reps… then another 5 reps (not 35 reps)… well I just think it was overhyped.
But yeah bro, I’ve done 20-reppers a bit, but never 30, been thinking about trying 30 though. Gotta be straight murder though!
It was 365lbs and it was at parallel.
It would break most men in half.
People on these forums have done 405 ATG for 20, that’s more impressive to me. I didn’t see them having a “death squat” video. And I didn’t say anything about weight in my first post. I just think that it was overhyped. Impressive? Yes, but I just don’t think it desereved the whole vid and “death squat” and blah. But his words and the vid were good, like I said, think it was just a little over the top. Just my opinion, sorry if it offends, but it’s my opinion, not anyone elses, so please continue your worship.
Going to have to agree with this. I respect the hell out of Dave Tate, but c’mon. The way they hyped up the video it sounded like an Animal Pak article.
And, for whatever it’s worth, if you do TRUE 20-rep/Widowmaker sets, 20 is really quite enough, IMO. I think a lot of people look at numbers and numbers alone, instead of actual effort put into the set. When doing widowmakers, my legs are PHYSICALLY unable to continue doing more than 6-10ish reps without stopping and giving them a second. These sets generally last anywhere from 3-4 minutes for me.

Here’s the vid in question: Squat 405x26, deep, no belt/wraps - YouTube
I have done 20 A2G squats with 225lbs as a leg finisher one day, it is the only time I ever puked from a workout. Never again.
