3 Weeks to Prep for a Meet

A gym just down the road from me is hosting an unsanctioned powerlifting meet on 3/8 which is three weeks from now. I just found out about this yesterday and am pretty sure I’m going to sign up. Training has been going great lately. I’ve hit several big rep PRs but I haven’t done anything real heavy in a while.

Do you guys have any good ideas to peak for this in a short amount of time? I’m also considering not even trying to peak and just showing up and lifting. I’m hesitant to change anything sense my training has been going so well. Any thoughts?

Rest the week before, or maybe do a few really light sets around 4-5 days out. Don’t change much leading up to then. Open light, and make sure you have good form, so depth on the squat, lockout the deadlift, and pause on the bench. Go have fun and enjoy the experience.

Just lift until the Wednesday prior to the meet - the last couple of days just do movement work to keep fresh. Good luck - open light and get your foot in the door.

Ok thanks Jim.

Idk if this helps you, but I have a meet in April and plan to continue 531 doing normal rep maxes up to the last 4 weeks. 3 weeks will be min required reps w/ a few submax joker singles. The week of the meet will be Monday squat 75%x1 and Wednesday bench 75%x1 and that’s it.

Thanks man. That’s pretty much exactly what I’ve done.

General question, and sorry if off topic. Do you guys find you hit PR’s in your first couple meets or does it take some experience to be able to hit new highs in competition? I hit a squat PR the first time I did a meet (too long ago!) but my other numbers took a pretty big hit.
