I am 1Bish 2A, i like shorter trainings around 5 times a week. I start with some easy mobility drills, another mobility drills I do between exercises and I often choose exercises with a big stretch (flies, incline curls…). But paradoxicly, when I sometimes dont train (and so dont stretch) for like 5 days, I come back more flexible! How is this possible please?
Mobility/flexibility is, most of the time, a muscle tension issue. Essentially, the body cannot relax certain muscles enough to make them maximally flexible.
The higher your muscle tone and neurological activation is, the more tense the muscle become, even at rest, making them less flexible.
When you are training frequently, you keep a higher level of muscle tone/tension even at rest, as well as a greater neurological activation. This can reduce flexibility.
Two other possible contributing factors are:
-
Anxiety: being anxious or under a state of high adrenaline will make the muscles tighter, especially the flexor muscles.
-
Inflammation: in response to training (even stretching), you create inflammation in the worked muscle(s) which can linger for several days. That inflammation (even if its not felt) also reduces flexibility.
