250: A Goal Has Been Attained

How about for 1 day

just 1 day

we cut the guy a break and congratulate him. He did something a great deal of us haven’t been able to do, and its something. Its more than something, the guy has gained a great deal of weight and added on a great deal of strength.

For 1 day, congratulate him and let’s all revel in the success he’s made. Tomorrow, we all return to strive for his and our improvement, but for today, just one day, shut the fuck up and say something good.

Good job dude. Lifts are low but whatever, you’ve put on a shitload of weight. Keep it at it.

I agree with this, and Gerdy’s post.

Who cares about bf he got up to 250lbs, WHICH WAS A GOAL!!! And assuming he was actually lifting weights the whole time, a good portion of weight gained is going to be muscle.

Good job!

Congrats. What’s next?

Anyone who achieves their physique goals (measurements, weight gain, or poundages) gets a pat on the back. Good stuff big man!

S

Good work.
Pics?

It would be irresponsible not to say anything about his lifts. When someone gains a ton of weight but doesn’t get much stronger, warning bells should be going off. If he is gaining 4 or 5 pounds of fat for every pound of muscle (not saying he is, it could be 1:1 for all I know), then he needs to stop bulking, clean up his diet, and get stronger before anything else.

He accomplished his goal to get bigger, and everyone here has said that’s great. Doesn’t mean we should ignore the glaring negatives…

considering he only deadlifts 405@250 i dont think it is wise to assume a good portion of his physique is mucle.

lol@ rewarding him for getting fat. what if he went backwards from his goal and started out 250 then worked down to his 180 “pencil neck” frame. would you still congragulate him for being small and weak? i mean he achieved his goal still right?

this site is fucking ass-backwards. you will reward someone for getting big just because theyre big but flame the shit out of people who say they want to cut just to have abs or be “fit”.
ass-fucking-backwards.

Good working on the weight gain pal. 80lbs in 6months huh? I’m assuming a good portion of that is fat.

I’m with a bunch of other people on here…get stronger. I’m sub 200 and have a better set of numbers.

Put your determination to gain weight into determination to get stronger now.

that’s a pretty good point.

It just sounds like this dude put so much importance on the “weight” and not enough on the mirror, like the complete opposite of the 6pack kids we like to make fun of.

Threads like this is exactly why X makes his disclaimer of “I am in no way condoning you going to town on buffets every day and getting super fat and calling it bulking.”

Staring at the mirror picking out minor little gain of fat is stupid and inhibits maximal gains, but ignoring tons of fat gain is stupid and can totally fuck with your hormonal profile… inhibiting maximal gains.

How is July 2006 to now 6 months?

Exactly what I was going to say. It was 2 years 6 months…and 70 pounds.

Congrats man, keep it up, the strength will come in time. Still remarkably stronger than his starting point.

Good old T-Nation!

I wouldn’t have a problem if some fat 250lber wanted to be a shredded 180lbs… to each his own.

I do have a problem with 160-170lbs people who start dieting away and end up looking like some abercrombie model with abs but skinny bitch arms.

This is still bodybuilding and building muscle should be the goal no matter what the weight is.

His lifts are slightly weak for his weight, but that can change. He may be fat or may not be we don’t know, but even so if he was lifting the whole time and threw on that much size to meet a personal goal of his then he deserves some credit and positive criticism instead of just shooting him down right away…

Ass-backwards is the fucktards in this forum who don’t ever meet their goals and who never have ANYTHING good to say for the people who are actually busting their ass and meeting their goals.

Not a slam at you as I know you meet your goals…just people in this forum in general…I can see and agree with what you are saying, but I also think that anybody who makes it to a goal of their deserves a little credit, as long as that goal is geared towards building muscle…since this is bodybuilding…not just bodylookinggood or bodyletsgetfit, or bodywannabebradpitt, I could go for days. lol :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the reason that many people stress bulking over cutting on a bodybuilding forum in what is supposed to be a bodybuilding site is because many people do not carry enough muscle to start a proper ‘cut’ Regaurdless of if you want to be a pro bber or not, I think we all agree that we want more muscle than your avg. guy and would all like to stand out on the beach, at dinner, and in the gym for the hard work we put in the gym.

In general I agree, I don’t think we should do nothing but tear him down, but he even said in his post “T-Nation makes it impossible to fail.” It’s kind of like our duty to give him his due(he’s going in the right direction by eating food, and gaining weight, and pounding away at the iron) but at the same time keep his head where it needs to be at.

We all want to see more big dudes lifting sick weights on these forums, what we don’t want to see is big dudes doing whatever to be considered “big” by scale measurements, because that’s not what bodybuilding is about.

Also this thread still is lost without a picture or 2, it’s plausible that he lifts in high ass rep ranges and his maxes suffer because of it, but his size is admirable.

gaining 70 pounds and 10 of it being muscle is hardly accomplishing a goal or worth the effort.

most people untrained at 250 would have numbers probaly close to what hes doing. at least for the squat.

i dont know how you can be 250@even 20% bodyfat and have such weak numbers, unless hes deadlifting 405 for 10 for sets of 3 or something. but the way he worded it made it seem like a 1RM.

if you 1RM 405@250 you did something wrong. its like having a car with 500 horsepower that takes 20 seconds to do a quarter mile, something just aint right.

Do you bench? shoulder press? bicep curl? Row? pullups/pulldown?

A 250 pound fatass could squat 335 for a 1RM and if he’s bottom heavy deadlift 4 plates with relative ease. I;m serious.

How much upper body strength have you gained - since that is much much much less affected by pure bodyweight increases?

How many years did it take for you to realize this.
