Are you walking outside? How long does 3 miles take? Are you weighted on the walk?

Yes. 45 minutes. No weight vest.

I know you mentioned you keep getting stapled with the 405 attempt but how is the attempt looking? What part are you failing the lift?

It’s close enough that I keep trying.
365 moved so fast, there was no way I wasn’t going for it.
I’m 3/4 up just no lockout to re-rack.
May go try at a gym with a spotter and someone to hand it to me. Lose the setup and tightness. Unracking it feels like a 1/4 rep.

Damn, son, you’re putting up some weight there!

That 405# bench is there, I see it coming soon.

Does your rack have Westside spacing for the J-hooks? Might be able to pull it off if you put your J-hooks up an extra notch. Bit tougher if they’re 1-1/2 or 2" spacing though. Fucking monster work in here.

I like all the encouragement you’re getting to hit these PRs but I’m going to go the opposite direction and say to shelve that idea. At your age and rapidly increasing strength (cycling) you are asking for injury IMO. I don’t want to see you get injured and lose steam. 365lbs is a respectable bench already and I would work more for reps and form as you continue.

Hell I’m not that old yet at a hair under 40 and I don’t even bench at all anymore. I use dumbells and focus on form/reps. I look better than ever but more importantly my shit don’t hurt all the time. Just my two cents for what its worth. Moderate heavy weight in middle age is where its at with all the PRs left for the young guys with something to prove.

I think the saying goes, you can build strength or test it. Most of the time should be spent building. I probably test max on bench a few times a year. Deadlift a few times a year. Squat, don’t have time to test that nightmare of a lift.

3 weeks ago I strained something in my rotator cuff. Ice, heat, and rest I went for it again in a week. Felt the same sensation. Rested another week, no pushing movements.

Yesterday I heard/felt a pop.

ER visit, a torn ligament in my rotator cuff.

I’m with Shaw on this. I like these big numbers that you are posting, but today I did imagine going to the gym with you while you attempt 405. I’d be cautious, your muscles are stronger, but the things holding them to the bones maybe not. You have already done respectable things.

Guess I should have read this before posting. How long do you imagine it will take to recover?

I get it and usually work in high rep sets.

I wanted to get 405 on film as a lifetime PR, even if I never did it again.

Not many people can say they’ve benched 405.

don’t know. best case scenario I feel fine after a few days of ice and heat like the last few weeks. xray was inconclusive. couldn’t see anything on MRI too much inflammation. sports ortho appt is next week.

Back to work in the morning. I’m training around it. I will take out the barbell rows though, I had been still doing those.

I’d already bought a swiss bar for OHP and bench and was ready to not go heavy anymore I just need to hit 405, once.

Me too. Really want the 4 plates. I am a ways off now with my nerve issue, but hopefully I can be there in a year.

I hear burpees are really good for recovery…:upside_down_face:
