What hit on Offense? Please don’t say Vereen when they’ve re-upped Bolden and Bush,Spiller, Thomas amongst others are still out there.

Defense for sure since Revis (or any quality shutdown CB) allows a team to play differently on D.

I agree that NE has taken a ‘step back’, but not because of their offense.
That’s assuming they pick up one of those backs. What’s their cap look like?

Perhaps but Bolden can serve as a 3rd down RB.

I liked the way Jonas Gray ran and Blount is still under contract. If we can win a Super Bowl with Antwan Smith, we can certainly win one with the current group.

Beans thoughts? Kid is explosive and do you agree with bringing up the front 7?
Oh god, this is going to be a long post, lol. Hold on…

When the Craft’s first hired BB, they were really impressed that he wanted to run a 3/4. Not because it was the best D to run, but because “there weren’t a lot of teams running the 3/4 at that time, so Bill said we could get a lot of value, as the type of players good in a 3/4 weren’t in high demand.”

So with that said, yeah, we need a serious front 7 because we’ve got two dudes in the secondary who has proven they can hold their own, and one is a nickel corner who got torched in the SB.

The other thing this does is allows us to trade a LB/DE to Cleveland for Haden.

Didn’t your team just hoist the Lombardi just over 1 month ago. Keep that chin up, feller…
lol, you guys don’t understand how spoiled I am by the Pat’s success. That ring just makes you want two more in the next 3 years.

Beans, you think Haden is available?

I thought Cleveland was in the market for DB’s so I’d be confused if they shopped around their best one.

Beans, did you read Tom Curran’s editorial fellatio about Revis? Embarrassing tea bagging of the Kraft’s.

Nah… And I’m totally off the “in Bill we trust” shit until he proves that cutting/lowballing the two best corners they’ve had in a decade plus wasn’t an absolute shit move.

I think Cleveland makes relatively poor personnel decisions, and in my mind I like to delude myself into thinking the Pats can take advantage of this.

Wilfork bolden revis , why quote “step back?” Your mentioning it like that’s not a big deal
I guess you can afford to scoff at losing all those players because of your teams history, but let’s not make it seem you lost “practice players.”

Why doesent Vereen count ? If bolden was so good why didn’t he play over Vereen? What the hell has he proved? Who is your running backs? As Ridley and blount are FAs I think as well.

But hey you signed Brandon Gibson … Cool

Well I don’t think Vereen was as big of a piece of the offense that you consider losing him as ‘taking a beating’. Blount is under contract, Gray runs violently and there’s a mix of guys out there still in FA if they still want to upgrade (I don’t think they need to).

Vereen wasn’t an every down RB when Ridley went down early this year so it doesn’t alter the offensive strategy in the least.

As for ‘step back’, it’s exactly that. NE’s D will (likely) be the same D they played in 2013 when they went to the AFC Championship game (and got their a$$ handed to them by Denver), Cover 2 bend-don’t-break.

I love Wilfork as a Patriot but we lost him for the season in 2013 and we still went 12-4 (8-4 without him) and made the AFC Championship.

Revis hurts because we can’t play that Press D that was awesome down the stretch last year. No argument there.

I don’t know how Browner fits into the Cover 2 type of D they’ll likely play though. He’s a press type defender and that’s not round hole-round peg in Cover 2.

So my ‘step back’ is to 2013.

The rest of the AFC East has made upgrades but I’m not losing sleep over Cassel and Fitzpatrick; maybe a little over Suh and Wake though.

Oh and don’t count out Wilfork just yet.
MattyXL wrote:

Because, if you take a look at it, this is very similar to losing Woodhead to the Chargers. Vereen played behind Woodhead, and turned out a good RB. So the idea Bolden can also be serviceable even thought he played behind Vareen isn’t crazy talk.

It wasn’t like Vareen was blowing the doors off when Woodhead was here.

Blount is signed unless they cut him, and Ridley… Well, we survived without him this year so… I’m not too worried about him not being here.
But hey you signed Brandon Gibson … Cool
Denver won the offseason last year and the year before… Not so much during the season. The Eagles dream team from a few weeks back won the offseason too.

I’m not saying the Pat’s didn’t get worse, they did. But the vast, vast majority of that fall off is on the D. The biggest weakness on the O is the line, and well, that really can’t get much worse than it is.

Connolly has to be a priority for continuity sake. Or this has to be addressed in the draft. Scarnecchia seemed to be pretty front and center at the combine. “In Dante, Bills Trusts”

your basically downplaying your losses plain and simple . Revis is not just a quality CB he is arguably the best in the game. While I wouldn’t lose sleep over Fitz either , I would lose sleep over the potential of the Jets Defense. You can talk about Miami all you want, but not mentioning how good the jets D can be should scare you, but hey I hope you guys do underestimate us.

As far as mentioning FA signings not equating to success I agree. However you have to take each teams signings on an individual basis. The revis signing is two fold , makes the jets defense complete and at the same time makes another team in your division weaker.

That’s the difference between this and the Eagles a few years ago, the jints last year as well as the Broncos

Didn’t the Broncos go to the super bowl 2 years ago?

Wait, that wasn’t just a horrible fucking nightmare? NOOOOO!
MattyXL wrote:

Matty, Neither me nor Don is arguing the D didn’t just get substantially worse, it did, by a long margin. The only exception being taken is that the Offense did. And that exception is being taken because it didn’t. As long as Brady is healthy the Offense will be fine.

That said, you are correct, the team is much weaker now, irrelevant of what the rest of the division did, because the D is (at least on paper) much, much worse than it was last year, as of right now.

As for this part quoted above, yes, they did, and got their asses handed to them by the team the Pats beat last month.

Just the offensive ones.

Agreed.

The Jets D is substantially better. Agreed. But if we’re talking beating the Patriots, it’s a pretty well-known recipe. Front 4 pressure; no blitzing. Suh/Wake > Wilkerson/Richardson (although not a huge drop off).

I just hope Bowles continues his AZ ways and goes blitz crazy. Brady can sharpen his carving knife.

100% agree.
