He had a ACL tear at Baylor. Was under the radar cuz no one had heard of him yet. Now, twice in 4yrs. He’s brittle, yes, but way to early to judge. He’s got to get accustomed to the Gruden style (pocket passing). I’m confident that Gruden can fix him if he stays healthy.

Had this discussion with some friends during the boring game last night: What are the top five most successful franchises (on the field) in the Superbowl Era??

Surprisingly we all had the same 5 teams, just in a different order. 5 of the 6 of us had the same number 1.

My List:

1)Steelers 2)Giants 3)49ers 4)Cowboys 5) Packers

Cowboys drop because of their inability to have success after the salary cap was introduced. The Packers had a period of awful that drops them. The 9ers same boat as the Cowboys but they did go recently (post salary cap). Steelers and Giants figured out how to get it done with the salary cap and without. 2-5 is debatable but I don’t really see any kind of argument that takes the Steelers out of the number one spot.

^Surprised New England is out? I thought they had as many SB wins as the Packers at least?

Looks like they have 3, never mind.

That they do. But they don’t have the longevity, we actually discussed the Pats, they were a close 6th.

I miscounted their’s as well. What would your list look like?

Agreed, coming off injury AND whole new offense, makes for a shaky start.

Man, I donno. It’s so tough to say really. I mean Green Bay won the first 2 SB’s, but what was competition like back then? Do you count Super Bowl appearances that’s at least 2 more for New England (FTR I hate New England).

I think you’re list is pretty good especially with the parameters you set.

I would throw Baltimore into the mix (because I’m bias) and argue you should include the Colts SB win (I think you should it’s was Baltimore’s team) and look at what the Raven’s have done since being brought back to Baltimore. That’s 2 SB wins and 4 AFC Championships in whatever it’s been (15 years or so).

It’s hard to argue with San Fran, Dallas, and Shittsburgh (ugggggh)

Yeah, that was just my reasoning for balancing it out. I think you could definitely argue a best of the rest with the Patriots, Broncos, Ravens, and Raiders but I don’t think they break the top 5.

W/this thinking, then you might as well add the Redskins. They won 3 SB’s in 9yrs. W/4 NFC championships in the same time frame.

True, they also have had quite a few “bad” years while the Raven’s didn’t exist. That was part of the point I was trying to make by mentioning what they did in their relatively short lifespan. Colts left in 1984 so that’s something like 15 years without a team. Who know’s what they would of done in that time though. Maybe nothing.

What’s funny is that the Cleveland Browns were the best team pre-superbowl era, and they could have been one of the best period, but it ends rather tragic in all cases.

Wow. The Seattle/Denver game was a gem. What a slugfest.

It’s a shame Manning didn’t get to touch the ball in overtime.

I have to disagree. That might have resulted in a Seattle loss.

It was a nice comeback by the Donkeys, but they just couldn’t stop the Hawks in overtime. I hear people complaining about the overtime again because the Broncos never got the ball. Well the defense had their chance to stop the Hawks on a few third downs and couldn’t stop Wilson.

Nice game by the Chargers. The D really stepped it up in that game. Terrible to hear that Woodhead is out for the year with an ankle/lower leg injury. The dude is such a scrapper and is a great third down back. Chargers might need to look for a backup to Donald Butler now. I’m really really glad they signed him in the offseason.
