Nothing wrong with that. Once the balls have been released to the officials, it’s their responsibility to make sure the balls are properly inflated.
Deflate-gate is looking (at least the way it’s being reported currently) at tampering once the balls had been released to the officials.

From what I remember no one was actually hurt because of the bounties and the point was to influence the game in your favor (like knock Favre out of a game) so you could win, which is the same reason for tampering with the game balls.
Yes, they’re different, but the end game is still the same.

To be fair, the only team I am not a passing observer fan of suffered much worse at the hands of the NFL than the Pats did. Does everybody tape to some degree? I say probably yes, but numerous ex-players insinuated that the “bounty” system put in place with the Saints that essentially removed their coaching staff for a year and the GM for half the year, plus cost them $500,000 and two 2nd rd picks (because they couldn’t take our '12 first round pick because the Pats had it), was fairly common around the league.
