Since I am basically reverting back to how strong I was when I was a toddler, I will keep this pretty short.
The meet itself: This was the first time crossfit diesel put on a competition and they did some things right and some things very very god awfully wrong. The highlight of the meet: they were selling footlong hotdogs smothered in ground beef… I’m not kidding. They had a whole food stand set up that was just meat. It was awesome. Also, the gym itself was huge.
The wrong stuff: None of the spotters knew what they were doing, there was no scoreboard anywhere, no one could understand what the announcer was saying, my session was scheduled to start at 245 but I didn’t do my first squat until 630 because they let 70 people into the meet and only had one platform.
My shitty squats: Warm-ups felt ok. I worked up to a very easy 495 followed by an even easier 587 opener. Went for 630 on my second. The weight didn’t feel heavy on my back, the eccentric part of the lift felt fast and under control, I hit the hole, went to stand back up and nothing happened. Zero strength out of the bottom. This caused me to fly forward and do something terrible to my spine. Scratched the third.
My shitty bench: Again, warm-ups were fine. 340 went up with no problem and tons of speed. My 396 opener almost flew out of my hands. 427 went up easy too but my hips came off the bench and my back was cramping too bad to bench anymore. Scratched my third.
My shitty deadlift: 729 opener could have been a power clean. Went for 804 on my second, pulled it an inch from lockout and it just got stuck there for about 15 seconds. Tried it on my third and the same thing happened. Typing this right now is actually pretty difficult because I had 804 in my hands for a solid 30 seconds total. At least I got some good grip work in.
So, got a low 1700 something at superheavyweight. I’ve got a lot of things I need to do differently from now on.
