Great benching, hang cleans, squatting, deadlift…freaking great job with every lift.

Thanks Joe and Steve.
Winding down from the throwing season, still 2 more HGs to go but these are my favorites. Lots of really good friends at them. Having a practice this Saturday with 6 other guys.
My lifting’s been going really great but this “off-season” I’m thinking of trying something a little different. I’m reaching that age where I’m wandering if I can get stronger or just maintain some of my present strength. Gonna see if I can improve on my max lifts in the major lifts. May not be able to. May be reduced to using the pink dbs.

In about 1 hour, highland practice.

AND, once again, the US shot putters have screwed the pooch. Our top 2 guys had the longest throws in the world going into the olympics and could only pull off 3rd and 4th with our 3rd thrower placing 9th. Gold went to Majewski of Poland, his second gold, and silver to young David Storl of Germany.

We haven’t a chance in hell of placing anybody in the men’s Discus, Hammer, or javelin. (sigh)

did I read that you trained 3x a day- with some great numbers

great work

No 3 times a day. Sometimes I’ll throw and swim but one a days is all I can manage on the weights.

Highland practice day yesterday. Really made some good progress on the sheaf. Found out I was bending an arm I shouldn’t. Next meet is 9/1.

Why do our shot guys keep fouling up?

Harry, you’re a helluva lot prettier than the “gal” that won the women’s shot put.

The only shot putter they showed on TV that used the spin thing was the US guy who finished third. I guess it’s back to KISS for optimal shot putting?

Joe and PJ,
You’ve managed to bring up what is a source of endless discussion in the throwing world. Rotational vs glide. Most americans use the rotational while most europeans still glide. The rotation style gives farther throws, when the thrower hits it perfectly. The glide is a lot more consistant. The circle is only 7’ across. Reese Hoffa, who is only 5’11", should spin. Chris Cantwell, who got 4th, is 6’6", insists on spinning but has never been able to use it to full effect. Majewski, the winner, is near 6’10", a glider, and throws great every meet. Strohl, 2nd place, is only 22, set every youth record in the world and will soon be unbeatable. He brings more speed to the glide than probably any thrower before him.
On another note for the “over 35” crowd. Virgilijus Alekna, who’s won two gold medals in the discus, placed 4th in this one, at the age of 40.
