2012 Comp Season

I would put money down saying that you’re a lefty.

Thanks Carl, unfortunately the throwing’s been nonexistent. Time I get off work it’s dark and haven’t been able to get to it on my one day off a week.
Yes MS Snap, I is indeed a southpaw in all things ceptin throwin. Did that left handed, too, for most my life.
Been having some good workouts and some good swims. Have moved to the indoor pool with the on set of cooler weather.
Several weeks ago my wife woke me in the middle of the night (not for that, damn!) saying, “I really hurt”. Instant alarm on my part. My wife doesn’t say anything when she’s sick or not feeling well. Quick trip to the emergency room revealed a gallbladder attack and gallstones. Several trips to a specialist resulted in todays removal of her gallbladder laparoscopically. It’s done on an out-patient basis so we were in an out in “only” 8 hours for a 1 hour procedure. Came home, wife slept, woke with: “I’m hungry” and called for back up. Several sister-in-laws, nieces, assorted friends, showed up with food and her recovery appeared to commenced in ernest. Enough food in the fridge now to feed several 3 world countries. She’s agreed to take a few days off and I’m taking several off to help out (get in the way) around the house.
So, nothing done in the way of lifting today. Plan on either hitting the gym early in the morning or maybe middle of the night depending on the wife’s sleep pattern. Hopefully, I’ll have sometime to sit on the computer for a while.

Taking forever to post. Trying to get around to everyone. Keep getting a “503 gateway time out” and white screen.
Anyway, didn’t get to the gym til around 1000, a time I’ve never been during the week. Either I’m there real early or afternoon/nights. Whole different clientele at that time of day. Full of young and not so young women. Groups all over the place chatting, doing situps on the ball thingys. Went into the office to steal the owners coffee, “oh, day gonna love you, mon ami. Don’t go puttin no scare on dem now.” I did my best “moi?”
So, I behaved. No unnecessary flatulence, grunts, groans, yells or expletives. Kept private parts adjusting to a minimum and performed said adjustments discretely.

Actually got to throw the 16# shot a few times out back today

Good to hear your wife is recovering. Closest we’ve come to that was 14 years ago when my wife woke me at 12:00 midnight and said. “It’s time, better call the midwife.” It turned out to be a 12 hour procedure, and the 14 year old has not made us regret it too much yet.

There will be plenty of time for throwing later and the end of the busy season is coming up soon. 6 months to get ready.

I am glad to hear things worked out for your wife and that she is getting better.

good news - take care of your little lady and yourself at the same time!

You’re no fun.

You should’ve mis-behaved, Harry. You would’ve given those women some new stories to tell.

Best wishes for your wife’s recovery.

Glad your wife is ok. She’ll be back to full strength in no time.

Glad to hear your wife is recovering so well, that had to have been scary for the both of you. Thats some damn fine lifting there to partner.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Wife’s allready up and about. She had a bunch of friends over last night so I took that as my cue to head for the pool.
100m sprints x 5
200m x 3
400m x 1

Hit the gym very early this morning. I could definitely get use to this napping during the day, eating big lunches, heading to the gym or pool whenever I feel like it.
Right shoulder’s been, feeling dead is the best way to discribe it, which triggered my semi-deload. Haven’t benched for a couple of weeks so did some experimenting today.

Bench
135,185x12

225x10 - Elbows at 45 degree, with back arch. Ok, as much arch as I can get, sholulder blades pulled in. (Discomfort in right front shoulder.)
225x10 - Elbows higher, say 65 degrees to body, shoulder blades slightly tucked.(Slight discomfort)
225x10 - Eldows nearly at 90 degrees, completely flat on bench, shoulders with no retraction. (zilch discomfort).

275,295x8
315x5

Incline
180,230,250x10

Xovers
50x12x3

low to high cable
40x12x3

hammer curls
45x10x4

Lessons learned: I’m delt dominant. Pecs aren’t doing the majority of the work on chest exercises. e.g. on cable xovers I’m letting my elbows drop and keeping my arms too straight. By raising my elbows more and bending my arms more, big hug, the pecs come into play more and not so much the front delts. Additionally, though I’m always reading it’s better to bench with your arms at a 45 degree angle to your body I feel much better doing a more “bodybuilder” type bench. Elbows almost at 90 degrees to upper body.
Decided because of the bicep/shoulder tie in I’m going to do bis with chest and tris with shoulders.

Catching up with you Harry. The training is looking great and glad your wife is recovering from her operation. Your comment about being front delt dominate really hit home with me. I’m not sure how I’m going to fix my issue. You really do keep guys like me going. All the best…

good to hear that your ladyfriend is healing up fast. also good to hear you got a couple days off in the busy season! lessez les bon temps roullez

Thats a lof of fine benching Harry.

^^ sure is

Thanks for stopping in all. Haven’t contributed to the forums much of late. A recap of my life this week.
Work, 0630 til 1730/1830
Gym
home
hot bath
eat supper in bed while watching TV with the wife (usually anime, we’re aging backwards mentally)
sleep
repeat
Yesterday just plain sucked. Below freezing all day, sleet and blowing snow. Steps were all iced. They were closing the bridge I have to go over as I was headed home. Hit the gym, peeled off rain gear, coat, sweatshirt, long johns, wool socks. Gotta love gym staff who bring you a cup of coffee in the locker room.
2 more work days this week, the off Sun and Mon and then work Tues til Fri. Got us about 5 different versions of Scrooge line up, plus a bunch of other Christmas programs. Hope all are having a good season so far. In spite of the long hours I’m able to maintain my strength with a steady diet of cookies, fudge, assorted chocolates and candies from the ladies on my route. Brought my lunch home the other day caused I’d eaten so much other stuff. Hope to be able to posts some more specific workouts soon.

Sounds like you’ll be able to train around things that are hurtin’…a speedy recovery for your wife would be great, esp. right before the Holidays…I know you’ll be working your tail off next week but allow for some “me” time if you can!

Hope the weather lets up on you a bit Harry, enjoy the Christmas cheer from teh ladies on your route. Its the season you know.

Something tells me if I walked into your gym all bedraggled and stuff, they’d kick me out and tell me to dry off before entering…

Harry, this is the first time since I started reading about your exploits that I can say I’m disapointed in your effort(s).

Hmm maybe I need to change the diet to cookies and fudge hehe nice training!
