2011 SPF Worlds Training Log

Thanks Joe! Im going to do my rackpulls like that my next DL session. I actually think we may be the same height (more or less) 2 plates may be perfect.

But it won’t be a day off if you just go to the gym Sunday-Thursday and take the day after the biopsy off.

For some reason I thought you were taller than I am and turns out I’m 2" taller than you.

Yeah that height should work fine for you then.

Make biopsy week your deload week, then have fun and play with front squats and zerchers (watch the bicep tendon!) instead of torturing yourself with the back squat.

X2

Did you ever try the zerchers off a box, slighltly wider than normal squat stance?

i think pulling off blocks like that is better than true rack pulls because your lifting position will be much more like when you pull from the floor. This tends not to be the case when you pull from pins. at least that’s true for me.

Yep and I loved it.

Well maybe loved is the wrong word, but I felt it.

I’m coming in the middle of the movie. What’s this biopsy?

I have a skin “thing” thats probably being removed and will have a biopsy on it.

Most likely its nothing.

I figured out if I skip this deload week and speed up this next cycle by a couple of days I can finish it a day or two before the biopsy and then do my deload week the week following after three days of healing time.

That should work.

Joe-

Just had the chance to back through your log to catch up with your progress and BAM there it is…Your meet results were awesome (I know am very late) Congratulations!! Best of luck with the Biopsy: it will be nothing. I have had a couple ( guess it comes with age) and I am still here!!

Smart move Joe - tearing stitches can’t be fun…

Nice pressing!!

good job on doubling 245- thats a 265 single .

I like pulling off ‘boxes’ vs rack pulls cause the bar is so dead lying on the rack pins.
and it take me allot more effort to get it moving effort like I am passing a kidney stone

who said zerchers and front squats over back squats- I like that idea allot

Didn’t have a lot of time so I got in and got out. Mediocre depth on everything not my best effort but I still feel wiped.

Joe, you worded that video request for the 500 lb squat at <180 lbs bodyweight perfectly; of course, another kid finally chimed in to call BS, and the shitstorm ensued.

I would love to see such a legit squat -it would be great to replay that in my head when I’m feeling like a pussy during my squat day(s).

Have to admit though, my first thought after reading that thread was of a video put up by Joel Jamieson (an MMA trainer of some repute) of a former Univ. of Wash defensive tackle whose 1RM squat in college was supposed to have been 550 lbs. And honestly, the video was supposed to show that he got stronger (squatted 545 for 2) than ever, but the squat depth in the video wasn’t exactly PL depth. Football S & C programs are notorious for having a generous definition of a good lift.

(edited to change to less confrontational tone, because I’m PC like that)
