Just curious.

ROFL, I can talk football for a long time. My little Big 10 rant was mostly annoyance at how so many Big Ten fans seem to think every other program is cheating but theirs is as pure as the driven snow. When the reality is ever big time program is gaming the system at the very least.

I can only imagine what must really be going on at big programs.

Back in January, Iowa had 12 football players in the ER with “Exertional Rhabdomyolysis” from off season workouts – it is not clear how or why this happened. It was hypothesized that they were not performing planned workouts away from campus, and then showed up on campus and attempted to do workouts that they were not ready for.

Joe, quit playing head games with the weights, you’re strong, and the meet atmosphere will only add to that. You’re not alone, I’ll be there to help you out, introduce you to some good people and wrap those knees good.
A meet PR Total IS happening!

Of you need anything just let me know, either here or PM me.

Got to thinking . . . yesterday my coach and I were training at the gym. And this guy who competes was squatting. His training partner didn’t show up. So my coach was helping with spotting. I think he had 515 lb. on the bar and began wrapping his own knees. I laughed a bit, how loose they looked to me, and suggested that my coach wrap him. Well, let’s just say that it really threw him off. He squatted way high. Said he couldn’t tell depth with the wraps that tight.

My point is that you may need to practice some wrapped squats with Lil Power so that you know how tight wraps feel before you hit the platform.

I’m going to pm LP and see what she thinks and I’m also going to get wrapped her by someone else and see what its like.

Thats damn good thinking Snap, thanks.

Squats

5x135
3x185
1x225
1x245wraps
1x275
1x295
1x315
real high
2x245
5x135

Okay still not where I need to be BUT I felt the “pop” for the first time and almost fell forward because of it. I"m getting the wrap tighter and not mumifying myself as much. Video of 315 blocked by brotards doing 135lb half squats. It was HIGH but never had 315 on my back before so I’ll get there. 245 looked good to me, 275 was a hair high or so I thought, and 295 needs to come down some more but I have a feeling I nail all three the next time I squat. I figure I have 2 more session before I quit lifting for the meet to tighten then up.

Camera work done by spastic monkets, sorry.

1x245

1x275

1x295

1x315

yeah for POP!
now go a tad deeper and learn to use the rebound to your advantage.
so jelly of you getting wrapped by LilP.
I wanna be wrapped by a superstar too!!

nice work Joe…

I like the brotards in gloves, and you are rockin a huge squat.

Big ten - does that still exist.
I can tell you all manner of locker room gossip about
sports programs.

special incentives, kids to ‘tutor’
cars

Good stuff goin on here!!

LOL @ spastic monkeys.

275 looked pretty darn good. Looks like you are letting the weight take you down a little better and getting more out of the wraps. Good job!

Could those guys have possibly blocked the camera any more than they did? It’s almost like it was deliberate. Have you tried a bit faster? You’ll get more pop/rebound if you go faster. I realise it’s tough with more weight than you’re used to. I have a hard time myself but usually reap benefits when I do.

Do you mean dropping into the hole faster?

I used to do that and then started reading how wrong that is.

I have a good feeling about this meet. You’ve worked hard and it will pay off with a good total!

Yes, Joe. Speed.

I must admit that I have not figured out how to incorporate speed into my geared wide-stance squatting yet. Trying to keep tight and balanced with all that gear on. I feel like I’ll lose the whole load if I try to drop or dip it. More experience will help, I suppose.

I really love following your progress, Joe. And I know it’s probably been asked a million times, but have you tried a wider stance? You are so, so narrow.

Yes, speed into the hole, using gear in particular results in speed out of the hole. It’s like bouncing a quarter off a mattress. The harder you throw it, the higher and faster it bounces. Do this within reason of course. I don’t want you to break yourself. I think this is why I had a better time with squatting last night. I felt a lot more solid which made me faster going down and, therefore, faster and easier coming up.

I don’t do much squatting with wraps (although I’m probably going to start again) but I saw some training vids (I wish I could remember where) that really helped. Guys were lifting huge weights.

The instruction was to stay slow and controlled on the way down, rather than drop with speed from the top which can be a problem for form…and your head, until a few inches above parallel. When you reach that point, release some muscular tension to allow the bar weight to push you into the wrap tension with some speed and then catch the rebound and power it up.

It takes a bit of practice but it is actually pretty easy to get the hang of.

I have and I’m slowly trying to work my feet out. I used to squat even narrower and I’m hoping that pulling sumo helps work it firther out.

I’m going to see if I can get a bit of that going, thanks.

Any idea about where in the lift you let it go, so to speak?
