2010 College Football

I dont think Nebraska will beat Texas this year. Even with a new Q Texas will be stacked. The Big 12 is probably going to be a little down from the past two years (with losing a lot of star players to the NFL) but Texas is one of those schools who always has good players and doesnt slump very much at all (this coming from a Texas HATER… that Rose Bowl game was total bullshit. I hate Vince Young so much)

Nebraska has a terrible offense and they lost the most dominant defensive player in college football. How are they going to beat Texas? I dont see it at all
Yes to everything above but looks better that you said it since I am a Texas fan. Did you watch the game last night, Arizona is in trouble. Vince still looked better than Matt.

I’m an Oklahoma fan, just making fun of the multiple Big Reds in the college game. Welcome to the joke. And it’s spelled Saban.
I know you are a OU fan, anyhoo, no matter how you spell his name he is still a DB. :)
I think DB is a step above what Saban is.

I only watched part of the game but I heard he looked good. I think Young is just a headcase. I dont see him doing that well because he is pretty inconsistent IMO.

I feel for Matt. He was the Man in highschool, The man at USC and then he goes to the NFL and it seems like he’s more interested in being a celeb/famous/“NFL Quarterback” than he is of playing all that well. Doesnt seem like he has the drive to do really well and excel at the NFL level. Thats kinda how I see it.

I agree, have no hate for the kid. I think he is trying to be a NFL QB now but the window is closed. He looks unsure and hesitant on the field. I watched the whole first half last night and DVR’d the second going to watch the rest tonight. You need to go back and watch, Vince looked good and Matt looked like a deer in the headlights.

Arizonas Defense is pretty weak though… and their offense is going to be down without Boldin (and having Fitz out didnt help their passing game either)

No, not really. I just never liked the USC program. Then for OU to not show up and lay an egg was just the icing on the cake.

I would like to throw Nebraska into the mix as a dark horse candidate to crash the BCS. If they can stay injury free (no whammies, no whammies, no whammies!), it could be a very good season. The true test is Texas on October 16th, then maybe a Big XII Championship game against OU.

GO BIG RED!!!
GO OTHER BIG RED!!!

AND GO OTHER OTHER BIG REDS! (I like Bama and Cornell, too)

Yeah, everything I’ve read says part of OU’s potential charm this year is that we don’t have to play Nebraska.
Sorry but Bama is going to have at least 2 losses this year. No repeat for the title. Also, Sabian is a DB.

Thats certainly possible but I think most people believe that there is a better chance of NU having two losses than Bama and thats with them being in a woeful Big 12 North. That NU offense is horrible, those guys couldn’t score in a house full of drunk sorority girls.

Now I think Bama will have one loss because I think this year nobody’s coming out of the SEC with no losses but a one loss SEC team is going to the NC game anyway.

The only game on the Bama schedule that worries me is at Arkansas and then our rivalry game. Mallet is the real deal at QB but hopefully their defense remains as utterly hopeless as it was last year, their o-line was pretty bad too.

I think this season is going to be wide open and there are a lot of questions.

Can Bama replace all they lost on defense?

Is Boise going to show up against VT?

Is Tyrod Taylor going be able to pass effectively?

Who’s going to come out of a muddy PAC-10?

Was Iowa a fluke last year?

How will the new QB’s at Florida, Texas, PSU respond.

Is the ACC Costal division the wost of the major conference divisions?

Will Ohio State somehow convince people to vote them into another NC game?

Will Maimi return to former glory?

Its going to be a damn fine season this year.

Hey Joe, great response. Less than 2 weeks to go.

JoeGood…it’s not automatic that a one loss SEC team goes. Boise State is ranked super high (3 correct?). If they go undefeated and my longhorns go undefeated or say OU does, then a 1 loss SEC team will be outside looking in.

I’ll pose this question.

Is an undefeated Boise State team left out of the BCS title game over a one loss Bama or Ohio State (or Texas/OK/Florida)?

BSU’s schedule:

Virginia Tech (neutral site)
at Wyoming
Oregon State
at New Mexico State
Toledo
at San Jose State
Louisiana Tech
Hawaii
at Idaho
Fresno State
at Nevada
Utah State

BSU’s opener against Virginia Tech will be rough, but after that the only legit threat is Oregon State and that game is in Boise.

Nice, good question and No sorry Boise has to have a tough schedule in my opinion. No way the computers have the weak schedule over a one loss big conference school. Beside VT the rest of that schedule looks like the tune up games for the big conference schools.

I don’t think you can deny that you guys got Florida’s worst game last year. To overlook them as a threat is pretty silly.

Not to the caliber in which they played last year.

Virginia Tech has been consistently one of the most overrated teams year in and year out. They’re better this year, and I think they’ll actually trash Boise’s season right from the get-go.

Hahaha… no. If he has any success it’s because it’s against ACC secondaries.

Sleeper: I’m calling a sleeper… UCLA.

No, but they won’t be quite as good this year. I can see them as a 9-10 win team this season, if not more. The Big 10 is still not that special, besides possibly Ohio State and Wisconsin.

I can’t answer Florida’s objectively, but I foresee John Brantley having a great season. I don’t even know who Texas’ QB is, Gilbert who played in the Natty Championship? I can’t imagine him having a stellar year, but he will be playing on a team with a wealth of talent, so take that however it comes. And Penn State is definitely going to have a rough year this year. I’m predicting 7-8 wins tops.

It’s pretty darn bad… but besides Nebraska so is the Big-12 North.

I certainly hope not.

They’re going to be dangerous this year. I still don’t see long-term continuity coming their way. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a late-season push for a good BCS game.

Indeed!

I’m not really discounting Florida as much as I think it will be easy to get the Tide up for Florida but Bama might get caught sleeping playing Arkansas at home, nobody’s going to sleep on the Gators, too much respect.

As a USC fan (it’s cool; I’m one too), you’ll appreciate Nebraska’s 33-0 drubbing of Arizona last year in the Holiday Bowl as a prelude to what they might accomplish. Here’s the thing about last year’s offense:

 1. Nebraska had an insane amount of injuries. Honestly. It makes USC’s injuries last year look like nothing. At one point, Nebraska was entirely out of running backs and had to convert a WR to tailback. The quarterback, Zac Lee, played the entire season with a little-known elbow injury that required off-season surgery.

 2. Nebraska returns 10 of 11 starters on offense. They were pretty young at some key spots last year, but have a ton of experience this year.

 3. Last year’s offense was still in a transition from a pass-happy offense to a more smashmouth approach. There was still a degree of identity crisis that I don’t expect we’ll see this year.

Now I’m not saying Nebraska’s offense are going to be world beaters all of a sudden, but they will be MUCH better than last year’s O. (Which shouldn’t be hard, seeing as how last year’s was basically dead last.)

As for the defense, yes there will be some drop off, but I think you’ll be surprised at how much talent remains. And the increase in the offense will more than offset the decrease in defense.

In effect, this year’s Nebraska team is going to be better than last year’s to a significant degree. And if you believe that, then keep this fact in mind: Last year’s Nebraska team beat Oklahoma, and lost to Texas and Virginia Tech by a COMBINED two points! Those three teams are all in the top 10 this year.

Regarding Texas, remember that Texas was lucky (yes, lucky) to beat Nebraska by one point on a neutral field. This was, of course, when Texas had McCoy and his boyfriend Shipley contributing 70% of the offense. This year a McCoy and Shipley-less Texas team have to come to Nebraska. It’s going to be a battle, but I like our chances.

Great Post, I am rooting for the Offense to be more smashmouth, I really can’t wait to see how the first 3 games go.

Although I’m riding with the Longhorns this year, the Big 12 is going to be more competitive than recent years. I’m not counting out Nebraska…Baylor(yes,Baylor)…and who I think is the “sleeper” team…dare I say it: Texas A&M.

Big Boss you have bigger balls than me, I have thought this, since Sherman’s 1st recruit class is at playing strength this year. It will be good to see since my wife is a Texas A&M fan. (Divided house).
