This is the making for a great weekend. USC won, UCLA lost, and I am counting down the time til Boise State gets stomped. There is no way they are as good as their ranking, NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Don’t forget that Florida and Texas looked fairly shaky in their wins over crap opponents. Every game like that brings us one step closer to the day CUM retires (again). And somewhere in Texas, Mack Brown is kicking his feet, shaking his rattle, and making a Texas-sized fuss. Wahhhhh!
And is a Stanford fan really talking shit to a USC fan? First, I never got the rationale of talking shit to a team that you beat in a wild upset. It’s like saying, “Man we are so fucking pathetic—I mean really fucking pathetic—and we barely beat you, so that makes you just like us: pretty fucking pathetic! In your face, fellow pathetic bitch!”
I can’t wait until the cunt Harbaugh tosses Stanford aside like some cum-filled condom to take the Michigan job after Rich Rod is fired. Harbaugh is a good coach, but he is a classless human being. This has nothing to do with him beating us twice in the last three years. (I have no hatred toward Mike Riley, for example.) It has everything to do with him being a POS. Deep down, you know what I’m talking about if you’re a Stanford fan. And trust me, the football gods do not approve.
Did you actually watch the Texas game or are you going off the ESPN highlights? Or the box stats? If you watched the game you would have seen that they are running a whole new offense, the spread is dead. Gilbert was under center about 75% of the time and they ran the ball, played ball control offense. I would not call it shaky, unpolished yes BUT they looked better than Florida.
I think you bring up a good point.
This being game 1 for everyone, I expect to see mistakes. Simple mistakes (hopefully) , like offsides, maybe some holding, shit like that. What you don’t want to see are fumbles, interceptions, personal fouls, those kill any chance at a win. That might be why I have high hopes for USC’ offense this year. They had very few mistakes, firing on all cylinders. How you describe Texas’ performance (I didn’t watch the game so I am going by what you wrote) is more of what a typical game 1 performance would look like.
I also think that it is the players who determine the offense of defense, not a coach wanting a specific type of offense. If you have a great QB and corp of receivers, then the run and shoot offense would work for you, and if you have some great run blocking lineman with a stable of running backs, then the Power I formation is ideal for you. This could be one of the most common mistakes offensive coordinators make.
Funny thing about Mike Riley, I liked him alot, although he was too much of a football geek. I don’t think he is head coach material (he was my offensive coordinator under John Robinson during my time there.) I do however like that he suggested I drop 40 lbs and move to fullback, when he saw me run a 4.75 40-yr dash while weighing 274 lbs. I don’t think I could call him totally crazy for that.
