To be fair, Bryant has reason to complain. There’s never been a superstar who receives LESS “protection” from the refs than Bryant and I"m not even biased about that, it’s just fact. Watch enough games (both LAL and non-LAL) over these past few years and this is plainly obvious.

OK, maybe the refs do give him less protection because he has been a cry baby since day 1. Chicken and the egg. But I swear, every time I see him miss on a drive he cries to the ref. It’s never because he just missed, it had to be a foul. Lebron draws just as much contact when he takes it to the hole and yet he doesn’t whine every time he doesn’t score on drive.
I think Kobe’s the best player of the post Jordan era (we’ll have to see how Lebron pans out) but he reminds me of that annoying kid on the playground that calls FOUL! every time he misses.
LeBron’s size allows him to absorb a lot more contact without it disrupting his shot, so he can jump straight into people whereas Kobe is more crafty.
I haven’t watched a huge number of Kobe games in my life (west coast games are usually past my bedtime) but I haven’t ever seen a game where I thought he got really jobbed. He gets a lot of FTAs for someone who primarily shoots jumpers at this point in his career (admittedly that’s just me looking at numbers and not watching the games, just adding in 2cents not trying to say I’m right and everyone else is wrong)

Cashed in again nicely today. 2x $10 bets turned into $18.70 (ATL v CHI over 178.5 pts) and $32.50 (Mavs to beat Lakers G1).
Mavs moneyline was a ballsy bet… I took them against the spread (+6 was way too high) and I took them to win in 6 (at 8-1 odds, all I needed was one road win to be able to win money hedging)
I wouldn’t have placed the bet if I couldn’t of tripled my money. I’m comfortable risking $10 for a chance at $32.50 when Mavs are quality enough to beat the Lakers, even at home. I was considering a spread bet but a +5.5 bet on Mavs to win was $3.50. So I just went with the safer option, and the other odds on the spread purely sucked. Any other team, I probably wouldn’t have put the bet on.
Also got $10 bet on Dallas to take the series paying $3.80 and $10 on Bulls to take playoffs at $4.50 lol. I just look for bets where risk is outweighed by reward. I’m probably going to lose out on those two though, but I’m already in the black off two bets so who cares. hehe
Edit: Should also point out that I usually hedge my bets too.
I think I hedged too soon on my Mavs in 6 bet… I bet “series ends in 7” as a hedge, so realistically the only way I don’t win good money is if the Mavs win in 5 (doubtful) or Lakers win in 6 (they’d have to win 2 out of 3 games in DAL). Thought it would be my best chance at odds, had to cash in before the Lakers even the series (got +150).
I’ve been on fire… bet MEM +6 in first game, then took OKC -6.5 in 2nd (classic zig zag bet)… cashed in on several preseason bets too (Blake ROTY, Thibs COTY at 60-to-1 odds, Love rebounding title) and won like 7 of 10 in playoffs so far (Hawks in 6 being the best). Get me to a craps table now!!!

Lebron was just an example I picked out because he like to take it to the hole. You can replace him with Wade or Rose if you want.
It’s always amazed me how he pulls that move off. I don’t know how the hell he can change his momentum to step around people like that. Ginobli does the same type of move too.

The difference is James gets those calls and Bryant doesn’t. We’re talking about HANDS DOWN the best player of the last decade, and he gets treated like a second tier player by the refs. Bryant takes just as much contact, but is a better jumper off of 2 feet so he has more hang time and can get more shots off from different angles. That has nothing to do with craftiness. Rose and Wade get those calls too. Bryant isn’t some whiney baby. The guy has played through more legitimate injuries than anyone in this era. When James jams his thumb, he misses a few games. When Bryant tears ligaments in a finger on his shooting hand, HE DOESN’T MISS A GAME. Think about that. If he’s yelling at the ref to call the foul, it’s probably because he got hit.

Kobe and Rose go to the line at almost an identical rate (FTA per FGA, they are both at 7FTA and 20FGA on the season), despite the fact Rose drives to the rim a lot more. Just sayin.
Number of shots taken per game at the rim, and from 3-9 feet (close 2s), respectively:
Rose: 6.3 at rim, 2.4 from 3-9, 7 FTA/20FGA
Bryant: 3.5 at rim, 3.1 from 3-9, 7 FTA/20FGA
James: 5.9 at rim, 2.4 from 3-9, 8.4 FTA / 19 FGA
Wade: 7.2 at rim, 2.9 from 3-9, 8.6 FTA / 18FGA
Bryant has never been above 5.1 shots per game at the rim since they started keeping track (2007)… two times he did it in 2007 and 2008 he got 10FTA/23FGA and 9FTA/22.6FGA.
He gets a lot of calls considering how much less frequently he attacks the rim than everyone else. This is what I’ve been saying, I didn’t bring stats into it till now because I know there will be some reason you don’t think they’re right (the real reason you believe this is because you watch more Kobe games than any other player).
The refs REWARD YOU WHEN YOU ATTACK THE RIM. Kobe does not do it nearly as much as the elite free throw drawing people. This should be the end of discussion.
Edit: Let me note quickly that I am NOT arguing against the fact that stars get more calls. What I’m arguing against is the notion that Kobe gets less calls than other stars.

Haha yeah, I cashed in on MEM and ATL although deep down I really thought ORL and SAS were going through. I seen Memphis at 6.5-1 and Atlanta 4.5-1 and couldn’t resist throwing $5 each way after a thorough review of the regular season match-ups between the teams.

Your over reliance on stats to back up your arguements is maddening. GO WATCH HIM PLAY. Have you not noticed how several people here recognize how often he gets hit versus how often he gets the call? I’m gonna stop discussing basketball with you if don’t even watch the games. That’s ridiculous. And to clarify, did it ever occur to you that Bryant’s “at the rim” attempts would be higher if he wasn’t getting fouled on the way to the rim?

Why would he get fouled more often on his way to the rim than anyone else does when they drive?
I do watch the games - I don’t watch AS MUCH west coast games because they’re on so late, but whenever I do, I can’t help but notice how much of a jump shooter Kobe has become.
BTW WhiteFlash, I generally ilke your basketball comments but you are just flat wrong on most of your comments on refs. I wish I could mute any post from you that has “fouls” or “refs” in it
Looks like 0-2 deficit for the Lakers heading to Dallas. I’d assume any LA fans that weren’t nervous by their performance in the postseason already, are now rightfully on edge. I think the stat I heard in pregame was the 2 teams have ever come back from 0-2 start on their home court(they didn’t say how many times it’s actually happened though, I want to say 2 could actually be a ‘decent’ % like 20-25).
