lol - what bullshit. “it’s easier to get good stats when your team blows.” Lets not forget he’s shooting 60%… while your buddy Rose is shooting 47% on a much better team. Not exactly “easier” when your teammates suck.
You really didn’t just compare a center’s better FG % to a guard’s as a relevant point, did you? You’re really stretching your argument for Howard dude. We get it, you think Howard deserves it. He isnt going to win it, DRose is, because I believe a majority of the voters are thinking the same thing the majority of NBA fans believe - that he actually was the MVP this season. Regardless of your Dwight Howard/Orlando Magic fandom.

I know Derrick Rose will win the MVP man. I know Dwight has no chance. Honestly, I just want the Magic to be successful because I picked them to win the East at the beginning of the year!
My point with fg% is what is comparable between Rose and Howard then? Basically every comparison you can make you can say “well that’s not accurate because…”
I made the point earlier when people were talking about how Rose’s team is 1st and Dwight’s is 4th. It’s also an unfair comparison because the Southeast is a much tougher division and Dwight’s teammates are average at best.
So I ask you, in what ways can you accurately compare Rose and Howard?

Hollinger is not an idiot. Lost in the stats he uses is the fact he watches a LOT of games and provides useful subjective commentary as well. Show me something he said you violently disagree with and I will take down your criticism.
His power rankings alone are worthless. I view him as writing provocative articles that are extremely subjective so people sign up and pay for the inside content.
Ya dude has the Lakers 4th right now, clearly a lunatic =p

Remember that post where you talked about how your wife came into the room while you were watching a Magic game and she was like “who the hell is that”? That was some funny shit right there. I think she wants her some Superman…

Edit: Not that I mean to laugh at injuries, I’m just happy the scariest team in the playoffs have a setback. I know it’s supposed to be minor but I’ll believe Bynum is back when I see it.

If you can’t directly compare their stats because they play different positions what can you compare?
You compare all the stats, not just cherrypick one of them that favors one position over another. I doubt there’s ever been a PG in history who’s shot 60% that plays more than a couple minutes per game.
Like I said… you wouldn’t compare them based solely on rebounds or assists, so why compare them on FG%.
Actually I already answered this and it’s annoying me I am again. Rose takes 3s, howard doesnt - that alone affects FG%
Also it’s much harder to get Howard a shot than it is Rose (he has to be fed the ball, and hold his position long enough to get the pass where he wants it), so you factor in the percentage of times you want to get howard a field goal attempt but can’t…those are inefficient possessions that don’t show up in DH’s stats.

I don’t think they’re worthless - they are better than pure W-L records but certainly not perfect. He writes provocative articles sure - ESPN pays him (and everyone else) to get pageviews - but I like that he is constantly exploring issues where his stats [edit] DISagree with general opinion.
I like analysts who don’t repeat the consensus “expert” opinion somewhere and he is pretty open to people challenging what he does. And he actually gives reasons behind his opinions instead of just blurting them out… usually I agree for the most part, sometimes I don’t, but I have more respect for guys who respect dissenting opinions.

…And you think people making a case for Rose aren’t doing the same damn thing? Basically everyone who thinks DRose should win it in this thread has pointed to the Bulls record.
If you’re allowed to compare their records, you’re allowed to compare their fg%.
Howard has been 2nd most efficient player in the league. Rose is not even in the top 50 and there are multiple guards in the top 50.
Rose doesn’t shoot very well even for his position. Dwight scores a ton and does it very efficiently compared to ANYONE in the league.
EDIT: Just checked it, Rose has the 23rd best fg% among guards.

Another edit: important mistype
randman doesn’t like Hollinger because he probably said something ‘bad’ about the Lakers. ‘Bad’ as in something that doesn’t gloat over how great they are. Maybe something like how they might not win the championship this year…
Btw is it that time in the season where we start to share our playoff predictions and our picks of the two teams that will be facing off in the Finals?
I’m intrigued to read your picks scj.
Raj were you going with Magic-Thunder in the Finals?

Yeah, I’m not going to re-predict.
Maybe what I said is already falling into place
Bynum injury => Thunder West Conference champs
Perkins trade => Magic Eastern Conference Champs
But I’m going to point out one thing. Anyone who picks the Bulls/Celtics vs. Lakers won’t look like an idiot if they’re wong because it is the obvious prediction.
If Magic/Thunder do not make it “HAHAHHA therajraj what were you thinking???”

I’ve always thought Kobe and Dwight Howard were two superstars who not only didn’t get the superstar treatment [yes, Kobe too from what I see], but seem to be on the refs’ bad side based on some calls I’ve seen.
This year I’ve seen a few times with Dwight just how he got on that bad side. And the video you posted is an example of how Kobe got there.
