Was it just me or did Lu Xiaojun just dump the bar on the 211kg attempt out of respect? He cleaned it so easily he seemed stable I don’t get why he didn’t try to jerk it.[/quote]

The bar was cutting off the blood to his brain and he’d have passed out if he hadn’t dumped it.

If you watch it again, watch his left eye brow, it turns up and his eye goes a bit crossed and he dumps it. The bar lands on him a few times when he gets off out of the Clean!

Excellent 85s today. Never mind Lu Yong though - Lahun and Kutznetsov were the real stars, especially as Lahun only got the call a couple of weeks ago due to Rybakou injuring his back in training.

Martirosyan was looking stacked!

Gotta love how much emotion the Kazakzstan lifters put into their lifts and the coach too. Where is Ilya Ilin btw? Also http://www.iwf.net/goyang/goyang_news58.php#newstable shame if he doesnt lift

Ilin is having some issues with the Kazak federation at the moment. Basically he didn’t receive the money he was supposed to have done for winning the gold in Beijing. The Kazak prime minister ended up getting involved and told the Kazak fed to pay him what was due.

Then Ilya said he wanted to take the rest of the year off because he wasn’t in top form, plus he’s just become a dad, and the fed told him in that case they’ll take him off the national team and he won’t get any money. Prime minister ended up getting involved again telling the fed that Ilya should still be paid because he’s a national hero.

Doesn’t look good for Aramnau. In the training hall the other day he was just doing positional pulls for sets of 5, no explosive lifts, so I wonder whether he was being cautious because of an earlier injury.

Thanks for the info. Shame that politics are ruining the opportunity to see one of the best in action. Well maybe Pashayev from Azerbaijan will have a better chance now, gotta like him Frank Rothwell's Olympic Weightlifting History 2005 WWC Nizami Pashaev, 94 Kg Gold - YouTube

There was no doubt Lu was gonna take take the 85.

And what’s up with Lu in the 77? he went from nobody in 2007, 16th in 2008 and now he holds two world records.

The Kazack guy was IMMENSE, very impressive!

I was underwealmed by Lu Yong. The 77kg were IMMENSE and a few of them were VERY close to the 85’s!!!

No one made a Clean as easy as the Korean guy that nearly got 212kg!

Yeah, interesting that the best 2 in the 85s were both lifters that had just moved up from the 77s. Kazakhstan has been very impressive so far - fired up lifters and very smart coaching is a tough combination to beat.

Indeed man!

The 77’s were savagely good at the Worlds! Stronger then most of the 85’s in regards to the Cleans! They made it look easier!

But interesting to note that the 85’s were just that bit more on the Snatch, wheres you would have thought that the bigger 85’s would be further in the C&J then they were, but were not, but instead had the bigger lead on the Snatch, thats the more technical and less strength bound of the two lifts!

77s were better than half the 94s today - bloody abysmal class! The only thing of interest was the last 5 mins when the Kazak and Korean coaches went mental.

Full videos of “A” sessions are here: http://weightliftingexchange.com/smf/index.php?topic=5730.0

did anyone notice valeriu calancea HUGE roid gut!!

also HUGE 185 snatch, also the silver in the snatch came from the B session.

Yeah teh 94 and the 105 weren’t that great! The 105+ was a bit better but still not that great. LOVING the German 105+ guy though

So many missed Snatches would not have happened in the old days. Youngsters need to learn technique!

I was talking with my mate and how the commentators on EuroSport love lifters going 6/6!!!

It’s not the most consistent guy that wins it’s the guy that LIFTS THE MOST WEIGHT, but I’ll give you that very few medals are won with 2 or 3 out of 6 lifts :stuck_out_tongue: LOL

I’m sure the lifters could have gotten 4-6 out of 6 if they had started lower…

The guy that lifts the most weight is usually the very consistent… If you look at the women’s classes (because they tend to be much closer) none of the gold medalists made less than 4/6 (and the best lifter of the champs went 6/6).

Totally agree with you but the way the commentators lambast on about it :stuck_out_tongue: lol but I like to start high and roll with it…maybe I should start 5kg lower and get the token lifts out of the way?

We’ll soon find out tomorrow!
