Man Today, i was studying for my exams. And this Tall ass guy (i’m 5’7 so im a midget) but hes prolly like 6’3-5?
Comes in. Sits down. Talks about the weight lifting. and says “170kgs is not alot of weight.”. “Not to me it isnt”
and i almost craped in my pants because, if i was oly lifting 170kgs, my back would prolly break right then and there trying to get it off the ground.
But, this guy is not Hyuge or muscular. He dosn’t even go to the gym and hes dissing somebody who has worked since childhood?
Also one thing that shocked me was “Why dont they put that guy who lifted 1000 or somthing” and i said “cause he lifted in pounds?”
He came back with “Fine, 500 kgs” and i said “Well you know that guy who “lifted” 500kgs… wasnt doing Olympic lifting”
And everyone was staring at me blank faced.
They don’t even know what they are talking about, and they are dissing World Class Athletes. =/
I thought god was just torturing me because i never study for anything.[/quote]
No, God is torturing OL, because it is gradually going the way of the phillistines. Such a magnificent sport, such fantastic athletes, and almost nobody but us freaks care about it anymore. Maybe the drugs are part of it, but drugs are a big part of baseball and football, and they arent going anywhere. Doc

Your right, Doc. Weightlifting doesnt even get talked about in the olympic games coverage. Badminton seems to be more popular. (The last time I played badminton I had a beer in my hand). Its a shame, because weightlifting is arguably the most athletic event.
What a battle! That was some excitement with the judges being overruled. Chris LeRoux kept saying Rybakou was pressing out, but I couldn’t tell. Lu’s pressout was pretty obvious.
I thought Rybakou’s was borderline - looked like he caught it on slightly bent arms then straightened them as he recovered from the split. The judging seems to have got progressively worse as the comp’s gone on. 48kg women’s judging was ultra-strict. From now on I suspect it will go either way depending on the lifter (harsher judging for weaker lifters).
Man. I now realize that everything the coaches have been saying… How bodybuilding/powerlifting/olympic lifting. Its pretty much a subculture. Only a minority of us truly care.
And its somthing like religion (since i study sociology). The more somthing is Pulled into the mainstream, the less integrity/meaning it has anymore.
People do yoga, but they don’t even know its from Hindu, and that it brings you closer to god. =/
So word came out that the Hungarian lifter with that horrible looking elbow dislocation, has zero torn ligaments/tendons and is expected to make a full recovery in a few months…thank god
yeah I was happy because I thought we had eurosport, turned out that I didnt have it at neither my moms or fathers place. and I cant pay the online thing because I havent got any card :\ . I just have to hope that it manages to get onto youtube sometime
Oh and another thing, don’t ever feel scared or cast out when people give you black stares about OL.
I get those all the time, but I still explain it (in a friendly manner). And when I have my cell phone with me (right now is broken) I show them a couple of vids and pics of meets I’ve been to.

Indeed we are our own social world. Untrained people dont know what its all about. Neither will they understand the jargon, lingo, gybrish that we talk about on here.
You guys see the 105’s today? That guy from Belarus raped everyone and looked like he could do a lot more as well. Incredible for a guy only 20 years old.
