Do these lifters use ammonia before hitting the platform? Seems like some of them are sniffing something in the footage backstage…

Thank you very much!

I just watched a new olympic record for 53kg women in the clean and jerk, something around 276lbs lifted by a woman from Thailand. Watching these women and this event was probably the most awesome and inspring thing I’ve seen to motivate me in the gym in a very long time. They are incredible.

Men’s 56kg (Group B):

Impressive. Well, Hell, it’s all impressive to me.

bahm the nbcolympic thing keeps telling me:

  • we’re sorry, NBC are required to restrict balbal in united states :frowning:

ditto.

I honest as porcelain, but the US is the greatest country. I move to the United States after surviving in China and of China decent, and it good is, with the aim of meaning me but, will not be all competition.

China will lose because of bad quality. I cheer of great praise upon United States because of my love of this country even though of China ancestry and use to survive there.

Women’s 53kg:

Yes, they show Julia Rohde’s Snatch.

Mens 62kg on now. Crazy to see these guys under 140 throwing around well over 300lbs.

EDIT:

Also, how do weigh ins work? 2 hours before? right before?

I think that coach from Azerbaijan is gonna rape his lifter and make him walk home after that performance, poor guy.

Are any of the weightlifting events going to have some shine on TV, or will we have to stick to online viewing?

I’m not seeing nothing on TV in the schedule for CBC.

Just saw a 17 year old Chinese guy take out the gold. We get a bit of the lifting on one of the channels broadcasting the olympics, not much but its been great what i’ve seen so far.

you know I never watched the olympics at all but I saw the stats on a few of the american lifters.
I saw Cheryl Haworth’s stats and her pic and that girl looks like she would eat a house.
I want to see what that girl can do though,I guess shes won medals elsewhere but I am really interested now, shes a tank at 315 pounds.

Cheryl’s got 6 World Championship medals under her belt as both a junior and senior. Did 126/161 at the senior Worlds in 2006 and took the bronze.

She had a short interview linked on the NBC site while I was watching last night. She’s big. Very matter of fact about what she does. It was interesting to hear some of the psychology of it: she said she just looks above the audience, picks a point to stare at then just goes for it.

I serious doubt it. That’s more a PL thing…

In USAW-sanctioned meets its 2 hours before, I’d guess its the same for international IWF meets as well.

I’ve seen a few of the bigger guys sniffing ammonia before a heavy C&J. Vysniauskus does it all the time.
