I was going to suggest that, but didn’t know if you had the capability of doing that.
i can make stuff… lol. im irish.
i find out tomorrow night if im allowed back into the gym. if i am i should have a 20rep squat attempt video. if im not ill start makeing something to save me if i bail…
im full of ideas tonight… what about if i took one of the sides of the smith machine off. loaded it with plates and put a lock on the open end. then grabbed it not unlike the stones from strongmen and squated that way…?

I’m not sure exactly what you mean here.
However, lifting like the stones from strongmen is probably a Zercher Squat. That would be a pretty decent movement on the Smith Machine. Not sure why you would need to remove one of the sides of the Smith Machine for that though.

basically exactly like this…
id rather us free weights for something like this as opposed to a smith machine.
btw… im sorry that it seems ive hijacked this thread
No problem thosebananas. You have a vivid imagination. That is good. You are afraid getting hurt doing your lifting stunt? Well, when you are done with your reps and can’t do any more, just sprint forward as fast as you can. Think about that if you don’t you will get killed, then I guess you won’t get injuried because you move faster than the wagon you use to lift. ![]()
You could always try something like this!
What about something like this:
Stone squat:
Another alternative:
Odd object squatting:
sandbag squat:
concrete barrels:
lifting concrete stuff:

Good stuff there. Not sure about the 1/4 squats with two boys on your shoulders, but other than that, pretty creative.

That would be a good option.
And hey, I’m all for Smith Machine bashing. Hell, if there isn’t already a thread (I’m sure there is), then I might just go and start one.
However, I don’t see a huge difference between loading up a wagon and lifting that vs using a machine.
But more importantly, if the Smith is your only option then use it. If it will allow you to bust your balls, and take yourself to the edge of failure, but still have a safety net, then I say use it. When you have access to a real gym and a real rack, then switch back to that.
But I can assure you that if you load up a Smith Machine with what you thought was your 10-12 rep max, and bang out a set of 20 rep Hack Squats, Front Squats, Back Squats, or Zercher Squats you’re eyes will be popping out of your head, your lungs will feel like they want to explode, and your legs will want to give out from underneath you at the end.
Nice! Really good chest posture.
You don’t really need a safety device you could just walk away from the bar, or not go to complete failure. The guys at WSM don’t have safety devices and do lifts x2 the weight you will be lifting.

Ok, with the help of a video converter, here’s my 20 repper:

Did you use “Super” to convert the video? Well done! This is the best video so far. Pretty tough, but you made it nicely through. Will you try even bigger weight, or will you leave it with that? Seems like you had some more in you. Good fight tough, and how did you feel after all this?
Today I did 14 reps with 167.5kg. That was two more than yesterday. Still 6 reps left to reach the ultimate target. It is not easy anymore. :o
I was thinking I was going to have an entry here. I intended to do 20+ reps with 425lbs for some parallel box squats today. Here’s the problem I was so winded after 11 reps I had to rack so I didn’t pass out. That damn tren is such an aerobic killer. I know I have the leg strength for it but no where near the lungs especially now.
Hah, i did 20 reps with 135. Low weight, but hey, i gotta start somewhere. Thinking of doing the 20 rep workout (20 reps squat 2-3 times a week, attempting to add 5lbs per session)

Thanks. I know it’s probably not the best quality video and I don’t get much light in my basement, but I think you can at least see what’s going on.
I started with “Super” but the free version leaves a big red advertisement across the video. So with some searching I found another video converter.
I will go heavier. Like I said, I started a little conservative. I have the leg strength for more. The worst part was my hands going numb. And now, a day later, my traps are pretty sore. I think high bar placement would be much better for 20 rep squats. I’ll do 315 shortly.
I just entered a period of increasing volume and doing whatever I want for awhile after finishing Starting Strengh type program and before I start Bill Starr 5x5.
I just did 20 reps with 205lbs. a couple of hours ago. Sorry, no video…I don’t have a camera. I was just planning on doing 3x8 but mid-set I said fuck it, I’m going for it and grinded out 20. I almost died…upon racking the weight, with sweat pouring form every pore of my body, I stumbled to the nearest bench and collapsed onto it. The guy working there looked at me like I was crazy.
I’m pretty excited about it…I didn’t think I’d come close to 20. I know its light weight…but I’m pretty weak and a terrible squatter at that.
Okay, got to it today…twice. lol
The first time I did it, I didn’t hear my camera beep telling me that my memory card was full, so I had to do it twice after I rested. So, after rep 40 I had to give Stallion some ribbing!
lol ‘damn you stallion’ well done geeze 40 reps thats more reps then any squat workout I’ve done.
