20 Reps Squat Challenge

Great job man … I agree, it looked like you could have pulled off a few more. It’s such a mental battle at that point. If you dig deep, it always seems like you could do just one more… I guess thats the whole point is overcoming that mental barrier to allow yourself to truly reach physical exhaustion.

210kg x 20 reps is awesome. Leaderboard updated. I still think you have more in you with a complete all out effort. 210kg x 25 reps or 215kg x 20 reps is possible for you if you really set your mind to it. When I see you crawling around on the floor in excruciating pain after the set, then I know you have done it all. This is no disrespect, as I know how difficult a high rep set is, but this is how much I have pushed myself, and I know you can too. Get a couple of strong lifters, one on each side to yell at you, and then lift till you collapse, that would be the awesomest ever, and I would even buy the DVD. If you could stand for 3 minutes after the set, you would get mad extra points for manliness.

If anyone thinks I am a jerk for saying this: Fuck the hell off, you haven’t been doing a proper 20-rep set, so you don’t know what the fuck you are taling about. A proper 20-rep set is like you think you are going to die, or a least something is going to explode or break…

Most of the posts in this thread is utter crap, of course it is good sportmanship to take on the challenge, and I don’t care if it is 100kg or 200kg on the back, as long as I see there are oceans left with energy after a 20-rep set I am not impressed, I can tell it is hard and it is good, but not impressed.

I am impressed by skizac, and most of all I am impressed with him taking on the challenge and actually doing it.

My own record is 173kg x 20 and 183kg x 16, and I don’t know when and if I am going to beat that. 210kg x 20 is very good, and I guess it will take years for me to reach that level.

I haven’t seen anyone else on this site doing that, and I do not know if anyone is capable of doing it. There are a few very strong lifters that could have it beat if they wanted to, but I guess they are more concerned with 1RM strength.

All of your reps were fast and nice, and I could tell from 15 on and in it was not exactly plain sailing, form started to break down, and you were really in a mess. But you made it, and you could even made more reps if you had to. Incredible achivement and congratulations with the PR!

Dr. Ken Leistner have done 180kg x 20, haven’t he? I have seen that video, and he apparently have trained a person to do 270kg x 20 (his son?), but I have never seen a video of this, and why on earth would not anyone want to film such an achivement?

There are not many candidates to win this thread anymore, and I think skizac will have this challenge nailed for a long time to come…

Now on to beating the infamous 227.5kg x 23 reps by Platz, I think you can do it perhaps in 2010 or 2011!

Skizac, awesome display. Very inspiring.

I appreciate your comments and encouragement, as well as starting this whole challenge. However, I don’t think any amount of weight or reps is going to have me on the floor in excruciating pain. When I first started doing 20 rep squats, I was rolling around in agony for half an hour, but my conditioning has improved drastically since then. It doesn’t matter how hard I go, I can stand up and have a conversation right afterwards. Within 3 minutes, my heart rate and breathing are back to normal.

You’re right that I probably could have done more, but I was saving a little in reserve for the rest of the workout. I have a big meet coming up that I need to prepare for.

You are like pro athlete, like the 800m runners that seem unaffected after a record run!

Even tough I did high rep squats 2 or 3 times a week, I had to get down on the floor if I did it all out… However, that’s details…

Great achivement!

Good luck on the raw unity meet. You will meet many serious lifters there…

Stallion, as always, I respect your effort when it comes to Squats. But give the man his due respect. You don’t always need to say “good job, but you could have done more”, or “good effort, but a real 20 rep set will leave you on the floor”. To me, that takes away from the accomplishment.

Sometimes “Good Job” is all that needs to be said.

You are right modi. Never meant to take anything away from it. And I agree with your statement and will take it to heart.

Just gotta post this. I think it is incredible.

Holy hell Skizac 210x20 is stunning. I’m at work so I cant watch it, but i certainly will when I get home.

I managed 155x20 last night at the end of a session of heavy rack pulls and squat partials. To say I was a mess afterwards would be an understatement. Wishing I had taken a vid of it!

I’ll make sure I video my next attempt (160kg) though.

I have been doing 20 reps on my own for about the last two months, knew this thread existed but hadnt read it. I bring that up because I’m wearing a Rehband belt in this, it’s made of neoprene, so I dont get anywhere near as much out of it as I do my power belt, but I’m not going to say I get nothing. Anyhow, if you’re still interested in watching the video, here it is
