Really, you studied in college? Obviously nothing to do with musculoskeletal physiology if you think being bulky (having more muscle) means you’ll slow down.
Having more muscle mass and being slowed down doesn’t stop at just oxyen uptake…flexibility also has its issues as well…try doing a successful zipper stretch…its hard! Im not getting into any flame wars…its not my intention…I gave the kid a complement Im sorry if I offended anyone I like the site it has good info…sorry Hatari if you took it personal. yeesh…No more posts for me!
At the OP’s age? hell yeah.
if you’re 17-18 and your frame isn;t widening significantly to accomodate the extra muscle mass, you’re doing something seriously wrong lol.{hijack}

18" is the benchmark for decent genetics (in my opinion). If you can get there relatively lean with a decent shape to them, you can probably go as far as you please if you put the time in.
I’m assuming this doesn’t take into account height/frame?
I’d say 18" at 5’10" and then 1/2 for every inch in height
so for me
I am 5’7" with 16" biceps @ 7% BF [7P calipers]
were a swole 12" when I started lol
so according to my modified X benchmark I should be 16.5
my aim is 17" @ 10% BF or less [I’m not overly concerned with being lean but I do tend to stay relatively lean even when gaining]
almost ‘swole’
height and frame probably should be taken into account a little bit, but I still think 18" should be the benchmark regardless. If I went on your “modified X benchmark” I reached mine within a month of training, which is pretty bullshit. Not sure what kind of “measurement rules” are normal, but it should probably be less than the 1/2" you suggested.
It’d be nice to have some more experienced guys chip in.

Yeah seems as though bulking really hurt this guys flexibility!!!
lol Flex Wheeler, Antoine Vaillant, Tom Platz, and many other high level bodybuilders can all do the splits and are extremely flexible/capable. We’ve all seen Kai Green’s acrobatics by now.
These “martial artist”/“MMA” guys really need to simmer down their inferiority complexes and stop visiting the bodybuilding forum and acting like their presence is some kind of special gift to us.

Coleman could so the splits as well at damn near 300lbs in contest shape.
I agree about the complex. What else would attract them to this forum like that?
An inch in a year huh? That’s amazing man! You’re going to have 20 inch arms in just a few years it seems. My arms were ~17inch about a year and a half ago. I don’t know how much they measure know but if they’re not growing then I must be doing something wrong lol.
This is a recent pic of my arm, sorry for the bad quality, I don’t know how to pose. I’m guessing they’re around 17.75-18.25 inch (measured using a string, so they’re not accurate), but I’m not exactly what you call lean, so they’re not that impressive.

For your own information Hatari Samaki, I have my own reasons for being my size, being too bulky slows me down when I compete in martial arts (more muscle mass more oxygen use). All I was saying was if he added definition either now or whenever in the future he would look freakishly amazing.
