16yrs old. That was AMAZING. I wish I was doing 315 at that age. The kid looks mad strong What was the total of his Max Deadlift NOW?

That is awesome. Strong as hell. It did look high though. why should he get out for offering luck and constructive criticism? Would you rather tell the kid it was deep and have him bomb out?
The kid is strong for his age no doubt (any age really), but that is not a legal squat. It is not a squat if your hip doesn’t break 90 end of story. The amount of weight on the bar does not change the depth needed for it to be a good squat. His trainer (I assume the guy spotting is his trainer) should keep the kids ego out of it at a young age so he doesn’t groove squatting high. But then again, if his fed lets him squat that high he isn’t going to get a prize for squatting deeper than needed. More of a problem with fed standards than the athletes I guess.
I agree the squat looks a little high after reviewing the video again. During the lift as I spotted him it looked good but it is hard to tell for sure while spotting him. He has been training and competing for several years now and knows he has to go below parallel. Just an honest mistake in a practice session. He knows what he did wrong and we will have it corrected for the meet in April.

He recently deadlifted 525 lbs. and will test this Fri. to see if he has made any improvements. He wants to get a 540 deadlift for the meet.

Both lifts are every impressive!! Hell when I was his age I was 150 and happy to squat 300.

Yeah I looked at it at first thinking Hey why 4plates and not 5 to get you closer butttt:
4plates & the bar - 405
2(25’s) - 455
2(10’s)- 475
2(5’s)-485
15lbs for those Huge colars and you got 500.
After rereading my earlier post, I may have been a bit harsh on the kid. Squat was off, but he is still a very strong kid and clearly works his ass off (no one at that age and BW stumbles into a gym and moves that sort of tin). I hope he keeps it up and capitalizes on his potential.
I guess I have started developing a hair trigger over squat depth in recent times what with all the high-as-kite squatters breaking world records in multiply supersuits when guys like Captain Kirk and Shane Hammon were crushing those weights in shitty single ply squatting deep. Those guys get taken out of the record books because of loosening squat standards and new suits, but the truth is they would demolish most guys competing now on equal terms. It’s a shame their hard work and amazing strength is being undermined by weaker squatters that happened to luck up and be born when the latest and greatest suits were invented.

Was talking about this very thing in the gym today

It’s impossible to tell if it was legit depth or not. I’m sure that his coach, and himself, are very aware of the rules of the federation he will be lifting in.
I see a very, very strong kid, and the first reply is a bash on the depth. Just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn’t see so much as “constructive criticism” as “That’s not a legit squat, because considering it as such makes me feel weak.”

I saw it as a guy not wanting the kid to bomb. He wished the kid luck.

You can take it how you want but even the OP said it looked high. Would you rather no one bring it up and just pat him on the back, tell him good job and then get red lighted? I dont think so.

The person in the video has competed in PL meets before. It simply did not appear to be a video that was posted for others to check depth. If he wanted depth checking, he would’ve posted a video with a view from the side. I saw it more as a someone who was proud and posted a video to praise “Big D”'s accomplishments: “Look at this dude who’s worked hard!”
The last thing I felt like seeing was another squat video post derailed into a discussion over squat depth. Unfortunately, I probably turned it into one.
(And honestly, I get annoyed when people comment on others videos when they themselves have none. Sorry.)
Wow, I thought I was bad for hittin 500 @ 18yo. Looked a little high, as others have said, but hopefully he kicks ass in the meet. Wicked strong for that age, hope he keeps trainin’ hard and stays healthy.
