15 Y/O Benching 400 Raw

impressive! I have a buddy who benched 385 at 15 y/o in comp. His high school in MI had a power lifting team. He wasn’t 175lbs however! My buddy was much heavier… probably over 240 at the time. He’s a big ol farm boy.

It might be easy, but I’d still rather play it safe, particularly with 400lbs over my chest.

I agree it’s much safer having a spotter and even if you can roll it off or dump the plates you can still hurt yourself pretty bad. That being said the kid is freaking strong and confident to be hitting that weight without a spotter. Damn, bad ass kid!

Please tell me the magic of getting out from underneath a 350 pound barbell if you have no spotters.

i dont even know about this. in the long video, the fact that his scale is registering some of his 45’s as 46.5lbs and then others at 53lbs is already blowing his credibility out of the water.

ill go with the fact that certain companies actually put out plates that are sometimes a lb or two off, but not 8 fucking lbs.

even after that, i wasnt so quick to call bullshit. i just figured that he had kept his hands on the plates while weighing them. doesnt make him a liar, but if hes going to go through the trouble of weighing the plates to prove that its real, he should be weighing the things with some accuracy.

however, watch the video of him pressing in the red polo shirt. its 1:59 long. watch at 1:06-1:07, when he shifts the bar to the left. it moves way too fucking easily. i watched this one after the long one. i had no disbelief, as nothing “funny” happened in the first one, other than his scale. however, the ease with which he shifts that bar is ridiculous.

also, i watched this without sound, so i cant comment on how loud it was when it hit the rack, etc.

Very detailed analysis. So who was on the grassy knoll?

The ease with which he moves the weight around on the bench also struck me as very odd.

It would be very uncritical to assume that this was legit without credible witnesses confirming the lift. It does seem a little out there.

It would be interesting to see if it’s for real and he breaks some records though.

toby cook.

So how about he show the bench powerlifting records instead of a video. I sure didn’t see them anywhere.

I honestly can’t believe I am discussing this. But you guys honestly think if somebody can bench 370 at 15 they wouldn’t try to enter a powerlifting competition?

I guess everybody here would go everyday to a 9 to 5 job making $32,000 a year after winning $50 million dollar lottery.

here we go again

lol…he says he’s gone to highschool powerlifting competition and broke the records (obviously). He also says he’s just starting to squat and deadlift to get them to par with his bench. The video’s look good to me, and I don’t think he’s lying at his age at all. When I came here and posted my pics, no one believed I was 16, especailly since I had facial hair and what not. Good stuff.[/quote]

Maybe if some people put more time into lifting than analyzing videos so thoroughly they wouldn’t get so jealous?

The kid is stronger than me in bench. I give him props especially since he is so young. Is it so hard to admit someone younger than you is better than you at something?

If and when I can bench 370…I will keep it to myself since it is such an unbelievable feat that a select few could ever hope to accomplish it.

Why not enter a powerlifting comp? Why enter one. You spend money for the entry fee, money for the federation fee for a ten dollar trophy. He’s a young kid who can’t even drive yet.

Oh yeah, depending were the meet is add in another 30 bucks or so in gas money. People here need to spend more time on lifting and less on nonsense such as this.

This kid for real.

yeah I think it’s real, he should definately enter a powerlifting comp. I think the comment about having to pay for the comp, the drive there etc. is bullshit. Only because what? You’ll not set a record and live in powerlifting teen “glory” because of some cash that I’m sure someone could help with.

Give me a break lol. That’s like an amazing fighter not competing because he has to pay to compete etc. etc. Compete, Get the record/win, take it all in.

never thought about it that way, guess it makes a whole lot of sense to be able to break the national record for my division by over 50 lbs without a bench shirt.

Even though the first person who saw me at 15 do this would be willing to pay to train me, as well as sponsors showing off what I can do. I’d much rather be a circus on youtube for free then in advertisements.

Not to play Devil’s Advocate or anything, but if you can bench 370 or 400 or whatever, then you can probably move the bar around on the standards a lot easier than someone benching 250. It’s all relative to your strength level.

If he isn’t legit, then he certainly went through a lot of effort to make it look real. Regardless, I really don’t care if he is a fake or not, unless I run into him at a PL meet, it’s not going to have a major impact on my life. Let him keep posting videos, until it happens at a meet, it didn’t happen.

Good point. My friend at 16 who could bench more than twice his weight RAW looked into entering a contest. After he found out he had to wear a wrestling suit he said no.

I don’t know why everyone is so quick to call bs. If it is in fact real (which I think it is) that’s awesome. If it is fake he is just making himself look stupid so who cares.

I know a few teenagers that benched at least double bodyweight. One guy did in the 300s at 148, one over 300 at 132. The 148 did a 405 at 165 at 20-21. All these lifts were done raw.

What people need to realize is that some people are very good at things while others suck respectively. It’s like a standard bell curve. Most fall in a certain area, while others are at one or other end of the curve.

does anyone know of a rack where the pins roll? perhaps that is why it moved practically effortlessly. perhaps it was just the fact that the pins are round.

like i said, it just looked funny to me. right now i would guess my max bench is at 330-340lbs…right now im just building back my strength- regardless, the benches i use have J-hooks, and against the knurling, 275lbs doesnt move side to side as easily as that 370lbs seemed to. he did have round pins, maybe thats the difference.

you know, when I saw the title, I was expecting really really short arms, tons of arch and tons of lat push, and I don’t see that here. Maybe his muscles are just attached at the perfect spots for benching.

dez, again I’m not advocating for or against this guy. But I press in a power rack that has round pins, and can move the weight fairly easily side to side.

What surprises me is the lack of any setup, no leg drive, no arch, elbows flared out to the sides. That is a lot of weight for someone that young and at that bodyweight, to be moving in such and inefficient manner. IF he is legit, then with some coaching he could be MUCH stronger.
