13 of some of the nicest subs in MMA. Anybody that appreciates grappling will like this.
Nice video. I forgot Frank Mir’s shoulder lock, that was amazing. Glaring omission of Rumina Sato’s flying armbar and Chonan’s flying heel hook. Also, Fedor’s armbar on Mark Coleman in the 2004 GP was one of the sickest transitions from the bottom I’ve ever seen. I’ve probably watched it a 100 times and still don’t know he pulled it off.
I was going to mention that Diaz v. Gome submission, but then they through it in as the last fight…
Have you guys seen that fight? They landed some ridiculous blows in it, it was quite a fight.
Of course, Diaz popped positive for Marijuana afterwards, but still a slug fest.
In addition to what Donut mentioned, I also would have included Shinya Aoki’s flying triangle versus Clay French. Matt Hughes kimura-counter armbar versus GSP was also a thing of beauty.
For sheer nastiness, I would also Ken Shamrock’s kneebar on Bas Rutten in Pancrase. That thing was all kinds of NASTY.
What’s exactly happening during the “cobra hold?”
That scissor choke was sick! I’ve never seen that before.
Nice vid!
I had been wondering for awhile now who the hell was it that had won a UFC match with a body lock + back crank combo. I have it on tape somewhere. Now I know its Ivan Salaverry.
There’s been some Amazing submissions this year, one where a Japanese fighter leaped in the air and clamped on an armbar or choke of some kind.
It must be one of the ones Donut and Steve have mentioned.
Links for those please guys?

Dammit, I was thinking the same thing. I might also add:
Jason Von Flue’s choke over Alex Karalexis
Frank Mir’s toe hole over Tank Abbott
Josh Barnett’s kimura over Mark Hunt
Chris Lytle’s reverse triangle
How can we forget Matt Hughes reversing GSP’s kimura into an armbar. It was fucking textbook.

Another nasty Shammy submission, this time versus Andre Van Den Oetelaar.
Shammy was ruthless when it came to cranking on his submission attempts. If you didn’t tap the moment he locked it in, you were in for a world of hurt.
Thanks for the videos, guys.
everybody mentioned what I had been thinking haha. Does anybody have a video of a chin in the eye vale tudo submission? I’ve heard it brought up a couple of times but I’ve never seen it.
I have a feeling it’s pretty self explanatory though, haha.

I forgot how damn amazing fedor can be sometimes. Wow, the arm was there for a couple of seconds and bang.

Mark Kerr versus Dan Bobish

Cobra hold might also be known as a spine lock or bodylock. One arm under the defender’s leg, other arm around defender’s head, and bend him sideways.
I’m trying to find a picture, but just imagine your head being forcibly drawn towards your knee by bending yourself sideways instead of down. It’s not pleasant.

Um…ouch!
I can’t believe the tapout from head scissors. That has to be embarrassing. I mean, I have been caught there, but tapping?

Have you ever noticed that Fedor seems to “slither” for lack of a better word? The guy is so slippery. Compared to someone like BJ Penn who is incredibly flexible, Fedor seems not so much flexible-though he is- as “oily.” He so effortlessly gets out of trouble on the ground, there’s no one like him. See his fight vs Nog for example. Nog goes for sub after sub, and Fedor easily squirms out of everyone of them.
