Gee wiz fellas, in critical thinking, we’re supposed to be skeptical yet open minded. Bashing an engine or a car or whatever for reasons because it falls into a certain “group” (ala ricer) without having any knowledge specifically of what the presenter of information is stating is not cool. Doing a little research on the engine I listed (2jz-gte) isn’t very hard, and it will make you more qualified to bash it when you find out how bad it sucks or how excellent it’s engineering is.
Yeah but the question is…where are they measuring the horsepower! I love when people fuck with benchmarks. ![]()
The Supra’s powertrain is an exception to the rule. Merely replacing the ECU results in a completely reliable 450 HP. In excess of 900 HP has been pulled from the 3L engine with a stock bottom end. More exceptional examples have seen a monstrous 1100 RWHP on chassis dynos.
Obscene doesn’t begin to describe such a car; the tires don’t catch until 5th gear. But of course, lag is absolutely horrific with that much boost. 700 HP is the practical limit for truly tractable performance, which is still plenty enough to push the car to mid-10s at 140 MPH.
I like the Bugatti. But I see it as a marketing exercise. When the McLaren F1 was first conceived, it had no target market. Gordon Murrary, the chief architect, simply wanted to make the most perfect road car… ever. And he did.
That’s why it’s the ONLY supercar released in the early 90s worth more NOW than it was new.

Whoa, hey there, just because I prefer the American muscle car mystique doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the imports. It’s all just personal preference and taste. You can make any car fast. I know people who only like American cars, but not me. It’s hard not to like twin turbo Supra’s, RX-7’s, or 300Z’s. And don’t forget about the M3, WRX, EVO, Skyline, NSX, S2000, AMG Benz, or even the old Corrado, one of my favs. These are all great cars and I’d be happy to have any one of them. I just happen to be a Mustang enthusiast. The feel of a blown V8 gives me wood.
My friend has an EVO and they are the real deal. They’re rated at 13.7 in the quarter, a second behind the Cobra, but nevertheless a rush to ride in. But yes, any of the above cars still handles better than the Cobra, even with the IRS. The Camaro reference was based on the limited edition 2003 SS, the last one made. In an independent trial run by Autoweek (I think), the 2003 M3, Camaro, and Cobra were pitted against one another in all categories. The Cobra was significantly faster in the quarter mile, sending the Camaro to the grave for good.
To twist things up a little. When talking about style and dependability you have to go with the Jap cars. Look at Domestic cars they suck inside looks like fisher price built them all full of plastic dashes kiddy looking radios and oh yeah the break down a lot resale value whats that? There warranties suck the suck to work on don’t pay crap. The Jap cars interior great doesn’t look cheap other car man. tring tro rip off there styles warraties great. Jap cars runn for ever (Honda. Acura Toyota Lexus) Resale value higher than Domestic.
German cars all ways in the shop for this and that alll the elec. problems fiber optic problems but still better than American.
And yes i have the exp. to back this up.
Why have a fats car on the street any way unless you live in Montana can’t use it leagaly any way.
Still hate the Mustang but yes the 05 does look bad ass but still a ford!!
Scrub ? Ditto, man. I would jump on that cobra in a heartbeat. With a single pulley and belt change, you get 430 hp at the rear wheels. Tell me that isn?t friggin tits?
Macaijah ? Dude, according to that website the best hp out of any of the supras is 958, and it is turbocharged. It is peter blach?s car if you check the list of top hp. As a matter of fact, all the cars breaking 600 hp are turbocharged. So much for 1400 hp, eh? And did you see the list of mods he made? For that much time, effort and money ? not to mention the fact that engine life is likely decreased to a few years ? it isn?t really all that impressive to me. Hell, modded mustangs get that much horse with that many mods and a turbo?
Let me say it again Mustangs are junk they are made by ford and fisher price… Look cheap break fast
Amazing the brand loyalty some people have isn’t it?
Same goes for snowmobiles, trucks, heck many different things…
Cuda - hate much? much too much? My family has driven Fords for decades and had nothing but the best from them. Yup, and that includes Mustangs. never had one break down or die yet. And at this very moment I can sell my Ranger for more than I paid for it new - how is that for resale value?
Amazing how some people hate a certain brand of car. Let me repeat myself by saying that you can make ANY car fast.
TheCuda, did you have a bad childhood experience with a Mustang? Did your tricked out Honda Civic get smoked by a V6 stang auto with a chick driving it?
Some people just have no respect for the orignal affordable American muscle car.
First let me say that the Veyron is one kickass car even if cant have one, 3600lbs and 1001hp (987hp in US) isnt that heavy, 3.6lb per hp better than most superbikes. Scrub that limited camaro was a 2002 ZL-1, the phase 3 having a 600hp 427 and Im sorry that would destroy any 03 Cobra phase 1&2 had 400 and 475hp. My heart is with the old muscle cars 70 Chevelle SS, new cars have little or no character, I get more thumbs up in a 33yr old car than a ZO6 Corvette, Porsche and I’ve been in both. Plus you actually get to drive Muscle cars no computer to do the driving, and when you hit the loud pedal theres so much torqe the rotation of the earth is pulled in the opposite direction. For all the 4cyl guys torqe is what wins in a drag race, 146ft. lbs. at 7500rpm doesnt cut it (S2000)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The article I’m referring to had the 2003 Performance Edition, 35th Anniversary Camaro SS vs. the Cobra and M3. The article was in an unbiased auto mag (I can’t remember if it was Autoweek and I’m not about to call my ex to ask her dad the name of the mag). The point of the article was to compare Ford and Chevy, and to make a mockery of the M3 which costs 15-20 grand more. These were two evenly matched V8’s, blown, same amount of parts. No kidding a 600 hp car would beat the Cobra, but how much does it cost and how many parts does it have on it? You’re comparing apples to oranges. That’s like boasting that a GT-40 would destroy a Trans Am. It’s not really fair to compare cars that aren’t in the same class or price range. The 2001 Cobra R was no slowpoke, but I didn’t pull that card because it costs a ton.

Minority Report Lexus: Is it really 2054 if we can produce it now? ;0)

Another Dreamboat: Mercedes Vision SLR

It’s Eleanor

Fisher Price? Doubt it.

Now THAT is true muscle car stance.
TheCuda, on a side note, have you seen that commercial with the guy driving a new Hemi truck pulling an old Hemi Charger? I have to admit that is a great commercial.
that mustang looks like a bad imitation of a rolls from the front
MrSS, ever looked at a dyno graph of a Subaru engine? Might put some of your V8s to shame at the very bottom. Mercedes owns the under 2K torque, but Subaru is very impressive low end for a 4 banger. I got serious respect for old muscle cars, even a CJ or GT350 Mustang. Something to be said for raw power and size. Too bad the only true muscle car of today is the Viper. GIWASA makes some awesome 16 liters for it. DAMAN, I used to drive a Ford. It sucked. I will never buy a Ford. The interior was nice though. On the original topic, blargh poopy quad turbo? Give me a 400+ V8 and four ball bearing turbos of my choice and I’ll get over 1000 at the wheels.
