That sounds awful. Absolutely do it. Check out @T3hPwnisher recent adventures in high rep lunacy if you’d like to feel inspired/insignificant
Man you’ve got a good steady pace going, and making plenty of progress. I started burning out a bit and needed to switch it up.
Burnout isn’t far away for me. Knees and lower back are still bitching and moaning at me, but I only have 2 sessions left so I just want to nurse them through and get it over and done with now.
It occured to me a minute or so that this might be a good fit for your goals to replace MMS next time you’re looking for a challenge:
Should help you towards that 300lbs pull and still leave you plenty of training time to build some shoulder boulders
Yeah Lower back hurt more than anything else. I found engaging my core more helped with that. As I tired I’d end up leaning forward too much and basically doing good mornings
Yeah, I think this has persuaded me a lifting belt is needed. I don’t noticeably have a core, so I don’t really have anything to fall back on. No gymnast abs for me.
That’s crazy aFib happened to you too with high rep squats.
By the 13th of 14 workouts I was on utter fumes, so over reached. Hit the 185x50 set, got in bed that night and went aFib for 3 days. It was horrible. I was VERY symptomatic. Self-converted back to sinus rhythm, but had several more episodes after that when either emotional, mental or physical stress started peaking.
Had the heart catheter ablation done and have been good since ![]()
High rep squat sets can be dangerous for some. The problem is, there’s always one more rep. If you look at my video, rep 48, 49, 50 are pretty fast. But my heart rate was at/beyond safe max. I’ll never forget that set and I’ll never do that again. I’ll never forget what my heart rate felt like after I dumped the bar. It was so fast the beats just blurred together.
I will say, I was so far over reached with training and work. Double dipping. It was a recipe for disaster. So I brought a lot of it on myself.
Keep it up @dagill2 .don’t rush the set, take your time. You can somewhat control the rate, but if you truly use a weight that is challenging, it’s going to spike and become a complete battle.
You got this!
It wasn’t squats that done it. It was emom deads for 30 mins. I have Graves’ disease which puts me pretty close to tachycardia just breathing air, and I did it anyway, so mine was self inflicted. It resolved itself but I felt like death was knocking on the door. I was afraid to go to sleep for fear of not waking up.
The Graves seems to be in somewhat remission for now so I will see how I feel by the tme I want to do MMS.
Work for today:
Bench:
5 x 70kg
5 x 80kg
5 x 90kg
5 x 10 @60kg
Deadlift:
4 x 3 @ 135kg
Complexes:
2 x Row
2 x Powerclean
2 x Front Squat
2 x Push Press
2 x Squat
5 rounds @ 60kg
Squat:
10 x 80kg
50 x 60kg
Notes:
- Nearly sacked today off, starting to feel like shit again. Too long without a decent nights sleep
- Bench felt much better grooved today. Last week worried me slightly.
- Shifted deadlift back to today so as to give myself the best chance of hitting my 50 reps on the last workout. Try and avoid burning my lower back out first. Should leave me with just front squats, press and a fairly easy complex day before the squats. Nothing to fatigue me too much.
- Actually filmed this one, partly for the pressure, but also as a back up in case the last workout goes wrong somehow. I’m fucked if I’m figuring out how to upload it now though, I need to sleep.
- Only one session to go.
Hey dagill whats your deadlift max
You have to host the video somewhere else like IG or YouTube and paste the link.
Yep. Upload to YouTube, copy the link, and paste it here. It shows up automatically like magic.
@Frank_C @ChickenLittle I’ll try and get that sorted later today, if time allows. I’m guessing it involves setting up a youtube account which I’m not sure this video warrants. I guess it will be useful to have one for when I actually start doing impressive things.
@tlgains not sure. Last max test I did 170kg at Christmas and failed at 180 after a max squat test, so I would assume I’m hovering somewhere around the 4 plate mark. Nothing impressive at the minute.
I have an IG account that I use only for the purpose of posting videos here. Like JMaier31 says, you copy the link and it is as if the internet knows what you are doing and does something magical.
I am also just going to say it: 4 plate deadlifts are impressive. They aren’t somehow less impressive because there are guys here who can pick up entire cars.
I have to admit its quite embarrassing how easily I’ve reached a probable 4 plate pull, considering how long and hard I had to work last time.
This is hopefully embarrassing enough that I won’t pussy around so much next time. No idea what the sound is like, so probably best watched on mute.
I think I heard an “oh fuck” after the last rep. I didn’t hear any sharting, so that’s always good.
I mean, the weight is ridiculously light, so sharting is unlikely. Although my stomach wasn’t too happy with me.
I shut the video off pretty quickly so I could lie on the ground swearing and trying to keep my eyes open in peace.
You cruised through that!
What are you putting in the bar for the last workout?
Last workout is 80kg for 50. Honestly, didn’t think there was a chance in hell of me making it when I started this program. I currently think I’m in with a shout at doing it. It would also put my estimated one rep max at about 5 plates, which I’m definitely going to pretend is accurate.
My game plan is a little caffeine first (I’ll have been awake for 17 hours when I start lifting), a lucozade drunk throughout the session, camera on for extra pressure. I may consider asking people there to peer pressure me into it, depending if there’s anyone there I know well enough a la yours truly. I’ve already stripped out all heavy lower back work first with a sneaky day swap so all I’ll do first is some presses, light complexes and front squats to warm up, maybe a couple of reps at 100kg as an “over warm up” and go for it.
Wow! I think that went incredibly well. Mine would have neen much more graphic…lol
Great work!
