Decided to stick to this template, with some added hamstring work on non-climbing days for squat. Getting swole as fuck and a massive squat sounds awesome but works totally against every other goal, so i’ll try and stick to slowly nudging my base up over a long time.
Bench felt super easy, probably can add some extra assistance or switch to BBB on non-climbing days where soreness becomes less of an issue.
30mins practising technique drills, then 1 hour hard bouldering on spray wall and moonboard.
Notes:
Still feel like i’m climbing terribly, and pretty plateaued. I think a little bit of that is perception, its rare for there to be any 6’s (up to V5, for American viewers) that i don’t do pretty quickly. I don’t think there’s anything under 7a that i haven’t done yet, and i’ve done most of the 7a’s. I think i’m probably at the point where i need to try a slightly different approach though, and start looking at weaknesses in technique and mobility as well.
@Koestrizer similarly to climbing, i’m not sure i’m really testing my strength much with squats at the minute. It feels like i’m 100% limited by technique. If i groove it well, it moves pretty easily. If i groove it badly, it feels like shit.

Notes:
Squats were a no again, had a weird fall yesterday that seems to have damaged something in my knee. Didn’t really notice until today, but squats were a very clear no.
Dodgy plate maths on the way up to the bench topsets, i was 3 sets in before i realised. I thought they felt a bit too easy. Topsets felt pretty good too though, even at the right weight.
Not a bad shout. To be honest, if i cared more about lower body work, i’d probably have experimented and found a solution. I’m not totally gutted to not squat though.
I was over in your log as your notification came in by the way. Mostly admiring the food porn, but also to thank you for your writing over the years. I actually misquoted you today in a paper i was writing because your phrase “be that someone that does” captured what i was trying to say best.
Holy cow, that’s an incredibly high honor: thanks so much dude! It’s really meant so much to have you in my corner for all these years. Your return to the forums brought me a lot of joy.
