I think you need to see someone

Fun for today:
2 hours bouldering

Awesome atmosphere in there tonight, love it. Finding it really tricky to get training time at the minute, lots of life stuff and work stuff. No big drama.

Well hopefully he is still showering and using deodorant, many of those bouldering people do not.

I actually prefer baths because i’m a big girly girl.

Baths are awesome, I wish I had one.

At your size, can’t you just use a teacup or something?

Well, I didn’t know you were such a size-ist.

I’ve got to feel smugly superior somehow, and being tall is a skill.

Work for today:

Upper back warm up

Bench (ss. Pull ups):
5 x 20kg
5 x 40kg
5 x 60kg
5 x 5 x 65kg

Curl giant set (4 rounds):
Hammer curls x some
Incline curls x some
Preacher curl x some

Conditioning:
2km row, double kettlebell rack walk every 500m

Notes:

  • Elbows a bit buggy with pull ups, these remain a silly idea
  • It occured to me too late that a Power to the People approach of bench/dead as my main strength work would probably fit the bill really well here. I can revisit that after August challenge.
  • Tried @TrainForPain biceps thingy, although i had to do it from memory so i’m not sure it’s quite right. Thoroughly approve though
  • Conditioning came from an old Gym Jones workout with the idea being to teach you to keep some tension while out of breath. Seems like a really good fit for what i’m trying to do.
  • Funny how all the things i’ve been deliberately neglecting for years (conditioning, curls and core) have suddenly had to become a training priority. Might be a lesson in there.
  • I’m pretty set on the idea of doing the 10,000 swing challenge in August, spread across the month. I think that will tick a lotnof boxes for me.

Just finished it off mate, will be doing a detailed write up but only thing to consider is it might impact on your ability to boulder. My hands and fingers went to shit pretty quickly not been able to make a fist for 3 weeks. Having said that your hands are probably going to be more prepared than mine were

I considered that, and i think it’s going to be a different kind of strain, but i might be totally wrong and have to abort mission. It is actually possible to do swings with straps, although it’s a bit clunky, so that might be an option either.

Look forward to your write up mate.

Looked good on the biceps! I usually just stand up after the hammer curls (where you did incline curls), otherwise I don’t get any reps in.

How are your elbows? I’d imagine climbing is really not friendly.

funnily enough, some of my climber friends train biceps as a sort of elbow rehab/prevention of sorts.

I think big benchers do that too?

Yeah, when i looked back at what you’d written, i’d done something totally different.

My elbows are fine as long as i don’t add in too many extra pull ups. Bizarrely, it seems to be pretty much just pull ups that are an issue, no other back exercises seem to have the same effect.

Might be something to this. I guess we’ll find out.

It looks like I’m going to get my first bouldering experience done in the near future. How much will a big guy like me make a fool out of himself in front of a very cute girl? Just asking if I should fake an injury instead.

You know… pull what is known as ā€œthe strongmanā€ (grabbing your lower back or hamstring, hurdling a few steps forward, making a grim face and after a few seconds of deep inhales - look at the judge/ training partner/ cute girl and shake your head with a very stern facial expression)

@Koestrizer you’ll love it mate. My only advice would be that as a bigger guy, who hasn’t trained crimping strength, big holds are your friends. You’re tall enough and strong enough, you can definitely do some impressive stuff on big holds, but i’m not sure how well your strongman grip strength will translate onto tiny edges. And rent shoes, because they make a world of difference.

Fun for this morning:

2 hours rushed bouldering.

Today was a high gravity day, but i’m still definitely starting to feel pretty competitive with this, which is promising.

Not sure what big holds are. Good tip on the shoes. Will do that unless it is expensive, haha.
