We’ll be fine mate. Wolverine is unkillable

Work for today:
100 clean and press (60kg) in ~30mins

Notes:

  • Full disclosure, didn’t set an alarm on my phone for 30mins, so its give or take a few minutes.
  • Went in with no real expectations, just set a stopwatch and started going. Started doing singles with about 10s rest, then doubles, then triples, then dropped down or up depending on how i was feeling. Threw a few 5s in there too, if i was nearing a big goal, but regretted it everytime. Looked at the clock with about 10mins to spare and realised 100 was in site if i upped my pace slightly so stopped moving in between sets and just stood at the bar.

Sunday. Planning to use 115 lbs (52 kg), but won’t be taking every rep from the floor, just the first one of each set—that’ll be hard enough, haha.

If i’m honest, i think you’ll get less value from that. You’re shifting a greater proportion of the work from your big muscles to your small muscles, so you’ll be able to get less work done before fatigue limits you.

Making them push presses vs presses went a long way in resolving this for me.

Congrats on getting after it dude!

Interesting point. I did a bunch of clusters (with only 95 lbs) yesterday, and it took me nearly 20 minutes just to get 52 reps at that weight. Granted I was also doing pull-ups in between and clusters add the front squat motion, but I was as sweaty as I have been in awhile and fighting to survive.

Food for thought… It’ll be a game-time decision on Sunday, I suppose.

I did half push presses. I get a slight dip as i catch the powerclean, then reverse that to start the press so i’m not getting as much out of it as a full push press, but it’s definitely not strict.

@SvenG i was deliberately keeping well away from muscular failure on every set because i knew i needed to be ready to go again in about 10secs. For context, i’m pretty sure my rep max with this weight would be well into double figures, i may have even done 21 at this weight before as part of a 21-15-9 rep scheme.

@kd13 thanks man. I can do better, especially with simple changes like adding collars and having chalk.

Work for today:
Squat:
5 x 70kg
3 x 90kg
3 x 100kg
5 x 110kg

Paused squat (ss. 5 jump squats)
3 x 5 @ 100kg

Push Press:
6 x 8 @ 70kg

Notes:

  • Squats felt awful. Not because of the movement, but i really didn’t anticipate how fucking sore my traps were. It was painful holding the bar on my back. Hated that.
  • Push Presses felt worse. That was too heavy, fuck that was difficult.

  • Aimed to do clusters but strength was way down today.

Fucked my hamstring doing ninja warrior last night, so no swings for a few days.

Impressive - that’s a lot of work.
