10 Miles Back Again

Did you walk to work with a 20kg kB and just stop randomly every km to do snatches?

THe stationary bike is BRUTAL.

I decided to jump into a spin class a few times for shits and giggles thinking I was fit. absolutely murdered my legs.

@alex_uk If that makes you smile, yes.

But in the real world, my garage gym is out of sight of my house so I pop in there for a quick session if I have time on the way home before I get lumbered with the kids.

@anna_5588 I’m very aware, looking at my legs and the legs of the big boys like @alex_uk that my legs are not a strength of mine. Probably years of climbing and zero leg work at all at work there. To paraphrase @T3hPwnisher, I’ve been not training my legs for a very, very large part of my life.

Haha re-reading your original comment I see what I did, I missed the bike (because cardio is invisible to me) and this:

Just made Me think the snatches were done on the journey home.

Work for this morning:

Morningstar W3D2:

Jumps:
10

Snatch Grip High Pull:
3 x 70kg

Squat:
1-1-2-3-3 @ 120kg

Giant set (5 rounds):
5 x press @ 55kg
Pull ups (Russian Fighter program (5-4-4-3-2))
Dips (Russian Fighter program (5-4-4-3-2))
15 x swings (24kg)

Notes:

  • Jumps felt good. Happy with that.
  • High Pulls feeling easier and easier. Although I only did one set, so fairly hard to tell.
  • Squats felt pretty shit. I think the conclusion to draw there is that I am quite weak. I think I need to keep TM the same next cycle, or at least a very minimal increase.
  • Press felt heavy, but I am way over Jim’s percentages here, so maybe not surprising. This is practically a 5 x 531 set up.
  • Mixed daily work in because I don’t want to go down there twice, to be honest.

Work for today:
5-5-4-3-2 pull ups and dips

5 x 15 swings

4 x 300m hill sprints

Notes:

  • Put the kettlebell in the car this morning so I could knock out my daily work at the park on my way home.
  • Got a wild hair, probably from reading all these Tactical Barbell logs so decided to do some sprints as well. Terrible idea, these sucked so, so hard. The first one where I was gunning for a time was probably the worst I’ve felt while exercising in a long time. It will be a while before I try and repeat these I think.

Coronafro got you too huh?

Great effort on getting the daily stuff in.

It absolutely has, yeah. Although I am considering on getting a different hairstyle (read a hairstyle) for the first time in my life, so silver lining and all that.

The Russian Fighter program actually has a day or two of rest built in, debating whether I want to allow myself that or keep going with the daily work as a discipline piece. Maybe a middle ground and find some unrelated daily work for the two ā€œoff daysā€

Maybe just take the one? I’m planning to skip Sunday’s, I try and avoid training Sundays anyway and I like the principle of having 1 full day off lifting.

Rereading the program, it does say just one. Also, it says tomorrow, which is fine by me, because it looks like an awful day work wise so that suits me.

Work for tonight:

5 rounds:
20 push ups
20 squats

Harder than anticipated. Quads and pecs feeling weak.

Long sprints (for me this means everything more than 30m lol) are horrible, hill sprint at that God damn… I congratulate you on your mental toughness!

Your sessions looks really cool, you’ll be an athlete come summer! And no, you aren’t weak…

I think we’d all feel that way doing this workout the day after 4x300m hill sprints. But not everyone will do it anyway.

@Bagsy it was actually the same day. Probably 4 hours apart, give or take. Its worth noting my idea of ā€œsprintsā€ is pretty lax. Even the first one where I would definitely have vomited if I had anything solid to vomit was 1min 12s, which the Internet kindly told me was below average for a high school 300m athlete. The rest were considerably slower. Very considerably.

@aldebaran thanks man. I’ve got a lot of ā€œathleteā€ training to catch up on. To clarify: the weak comment was mostly just a reminder to myself that the squats weren’t difficult because technique or equipment or whatever. I don’t need anything smart to improve them, I just need to get stronger.

I think ā€œhill sprintsā€ is not entirely accurate. They’re more like ā€œhill schleps.ā€

Its the thought that counts i think.

The Internet can be such an a-hole sometimes

For what it’s worth, I use my goal mile time to set the pace for my 400s. The goal is an 8 minute mile so my goal for the 400s is 2 min. I’ve been beating that so that’s a bonus.

@Frank_C @doomyguy I’m pretty new to this running thing. I’m not expecting big things over night, and I’m fine with that.
