Might be butchered (might not, I haven’t got a clue) but the sentiment is there and I agree!
The press is the only lift that matters if you want to be jacked.
Caveat: must start from floor.
I am considering getting some basic instruction on how to clean, partly for that reason. But also because I believe the instructor is an Olympic silver medalist (albeit disqualified for massive amounts of doping), and that would be pretty cool.
Just continental it. Then you need even MORE strength, haha.
Unfortunately, I can cheat curl my pressing weights. I guess I have a long ways to go to have a good press and be jacked.
BW for 10 is a good goal.
I don’t see that happening in my life. 230 for 10 is a long ways from 155 for one. I turn 36 this month and my joints aren’t getting any happier. I’m actually enjoying some minor shoulder pain after today’s supplemental pressing. I’m beginning to think OHP might not be in my best interest. But before I ditch it altogether, I’m just going to back off and use dumbbells on my supplemental days. I also smash my delts twice a week at the end of my upper body sessions and I could back off to once a week.
I’m not giving up, but hopefully you can understand why I feel like I’m a lifetime or two away from such a goal.
I’ll be happy when I do BW for one ahahahah
We have gone round and round on this before, haha.
I’m still trying!
I just don’t expect to achieve certain things. I don’t consider this a height thing; it’s a joint durability thing.
I’m not doing too shabby on the lifts that my body likes.
I know one weird trick (that doctor’s hate) that can give your joints a little more durability…
If this is coming from the floor, then does it assume push presses or jerks? Like 10 power cleans & presses for reps?
Good point - I had thought that a 95kg strict press for a single was a long way off for me, but I could push press that already, now I’m wondering if I could floor to overhead 10 times…
Just look up Glenn Pendlay’s instructions on how to power clean and clean on Youtube.
Did more for understanding the mechanics than just about anything else I read and saw online.
Strict. But clean only once. Really, focus is on a single rep, but 10xBW is a solid goal for an impressive physique.
No fair!
It’s about developing impressive musculature. Leg drive allows for a LOT of technique.
You evidently haven’t seen me push press.
It doesn’t matter.
Yea I get a lot out of leg drive - been years since I’ve tried (low roof) but at the time I could strict an absolute balls out max of 70kg but could push press 95kg.
