10 Miles Back Again

Excuse me while I go and cry in a corner somewhere

I assume I actually get plenty out of leg drive, I can definitely get 20kg out of it, which is close enough 30% of my strict press max.

More than I ever got. That’s solid.

Better at cheating than a strongman. That’s going on my resume.

I wasn’t a good strongman by most conceivable measures.

You won 4 competitions.

I am good at being strong.

So, he’s a strong man, but not really a strongman.

10xBW strict sounds like a fun goal, but feels quite a ways away, bordering on impossible.

Easy goals are no fun

Well, I did use the word fun. And I kind of meant it. On a good day I can probably get 3 reps at BW, but going from there to 10 seems like a big ass mountain to climb.

Been chasing an 800lb deadlift since 08 in the same way, haha.

Technically, we’re all sorta chasing an 800lb deadlift. You just happen to be way closer than the rest of us.

Problem with ā€œversus BWā€ goals right now is that I am getting fatter every day. Literally a moving target.

Nah, some of us already got there. Kroc is who inspired me.

A quick thought experiment here, that may upset a few people, and may even result in me having to do regular cardio (which is my way of saying, please prove me wrong)

All the six pack lean lifters on here do regular cardio: change my mind.

If you’ll have me as one: I don’t. But I’m planing on doing it regularly now. But more for improving health, performance and recovery than calories consumption

So I don’t need to do cardio? Awesome.

It really depends on how we define ā€œregularā€ and ā€œcardioā€. I do regular conditioning, and I do cardio ala long duration/low intensity stuff, but are we counting walking in that? I just consider that activity. I do cardio once a week, and that’s really only because I have a race coming up (which I’m honestly really slacking on training for at this point).

I think regular physical activity is necessary, but I find ā€œcardio cutsā€ to be a poor strategy for most. You’re trying to up activity while decreasing intake.

In this instance, I’m counting cardio as intentionally getting out of breathe.

I’m really looking at this as a black box kind of deal at the minute. I’m not smart enough to figure out the why’s here, but if the vast majority of lean lifters do regular ā€œgetting out of breatheā€ and the vast majority of people who don’t do regular ā€œgetting out of breatheā€ are not lean, that paints a pretty clear picture.

Funny enough, the ā€œcardio communityā€ as it were would rule AGAINST that. So often I hear that a good running pace is one where you can carry on a conversation, and that just blows my mind.

This is said in respect of it being a good pace for your long slow run of the week to help build your anaerobic system. It’s great for building endurance which in turn can help with speed. But it’s only part of the picture, you still need to train your aerobic system too with tempo runs or other speed techniques.
