After 14 days at 4000 cals i am the exact same weight.
so im going back up to 4500 with the same carb restrictions (trying to hit below 20% of cals / day from carbs).

calipers today
BF% stayed the same at 17%!!
which means LBM has gone up from 185.9 to 189.5 in the last month.
excellent
so January the 1st i had 170 pounds of LBM,
so since then ive averaged 0.75 pounds of LBM gain per week.
and 0.4 pounds of fat per week on average.
weight 229.75.
waist 39 inches (ish)
just read through the whole log, very interesting so far.
but i have a question, maybe i missed this while i read through - why are you concerned with a bigger waist or BF gain if the idea was to ‘eat big, train heavy’?
anyway, you’ve made some great progress, keep it up!
weight 230
waist 39
bi: 15.5
flexed bi: 17
chest: 44.5
flexed chest: 47.5
finally my first measure of my left (smaller) arm has read 17 inches!
hi hypnotoad
well basically i can put on weight very very easily, and having previously been fat i know myself and i know that if i started looking too fat again id end up cutting early.
by keeping track of my waist measurement i can clean up my diet if i notice it moving up too quickly…thus prolonging the total amount of time i bulk for.
im already gaining 1 pound per week, so any more than that would not be optimal in terms of muscle/fat ratio.

interesting. ive always been kinda skinny, but have been gaining weight like crazy as of late. my midsection looks about the same, though. in your opinion, should i intentionally slow it down, or do you think for a lean person the more rapid gain is acceptable?
it depends on your overall aim.
if you want a lean muscular moderate physique then i would say preserve your natural lean ness.
its easier to stay lean when you are lean…if you start to get fatter your body doesnt partition the weight gain as favourably to the muscle side.
however if you want large muscle gains (20-50pounds), and have alot to gain then you are going to need to let loose. if you train hard enough you can get away with some unrestrained force feeding.
i personally have gone a bit nuts on the feeding, and even though i feel i gain fat easily…my workouts seem to be keeping me growing in the right way!

thanks for the response, im going to continue stuffing my face lol
weight 233
calipers done today.
bf - 17.66%
LBM - 191.8
fat - 41.2
im getting to the edge of my patience with the extra flab now, and i think im going past an optimal stage.
whilst i have had good gains overall on this approach over the last 4-5 months, i feel that i am now gaining fat easier due to my already high bodyfat levels.
also, considering my aim is 200 LBM i think i might put the breaks on soon to rest, recover and trim up for quality gains in the last 8 pound stretch.
also, all my clothes are starting to stretch and break , or are just not wearable.
bla blah blah, lots more lame excuses, blah.
end of the day ive put on 15 pounds of muscle in the last 4 months so im allowed to rationalise my way into controlling fat gain!
ill hold on for the rest of August and then very slowly start lowering my calories.
so it will be at least 2 months before im in a cal deficit which will give my body some time to get used to this new muscle weight.
week of rest starts now!

yeah im definately reaching the point at which i need to cut away the fat.
i think ive had a good run of it for the last 4-5 months!
im lowering my cal intake from 4500 to 4000 and im cleaning it up a little (e.g converting from sausages to yogurt and fruit for breakfast!)
around september the 18th ill have a new state of the art gym to go to so maybe that will mark the start of my cutting programme.
