May be one of the coolest sniping stories I have heard of.

That dude is one hell of a shot. He hit the trigger switch from 930 yards away? That’s over half a mile. Also one hell of a rifle. Wow…
Seems hitting the trigger was just a coincidence, still, he probably saved a lot of innocent lives that day. A hell of a better shot than me ![]()

Not to take anything away from the shot, but Marines qualify at 500 yards with iron sights (obviously the target is larger).
930 yards for a sniper is like a chip shot for Tiger.
*Edited for accuracy.

Not to take anything away from the shot, but Marines qualify at 1,000 yards with iron sights (obviously the target is larger).

Especially with a .50 caliber sniper rifle. I didn’t read the story, but I’m assuming that’s what he used.

Can you cite references?

I believe that was WW1-WW2 era. Currently 500 meters with M4.
Target matches documented at 800, 900, 1000 yards. For example:

Do you see that Pillsbury Dough Boy drooling after your daughter?
According to another article I read on this case he used an Accuracy International L115A3 .338, and also took out a MG gunner at 1465 yards in the same mission.

Lol, meant to write 500 yards, oops
Your daughter must lift to hoist that thing up. he he. Always cool to hear stuff about guns from those who know about them. I know a bit, gotta get that license. Nothing feels better than firing a rifle and nailing your target. I think a little luck was involved in this instance but it was a great deed. Those guys are the biggest scumbags on earth.

Yes, but they’re also some of the ballsiest. I always smirk when someone refers to insurgents or terrorists (not the same thing) as cowards.

A differentiation needs to be made between point and area targets. Hitting a target accurately at 500 meters in combat is not something that most riflemen can achieve. That range is more appropriate for the squad designated marksmen, who has the training and armament to fill the intermediately role between a riflemen and a sniper.

That’s the same thing the Brits thought about us.
