I keep reading this thread title as “zumba lovers unite”
The HUGE problem with motorcycles and horses are how much they leave you exposed. zombies can easily grab you and pull you off your horse/bike. For a quick getaway they are fine with a head start but plowing through a crowd is gonna get you fucked up. Also what’s to stop the zombies from eating your horse? a good four wheel drive vehicle is a much safer bet.

Zombies never eat horses. Only human flesh.
Plus a horse is able to stampede through most crowd zombies. Unless its one of those huge mobs.
You just mad because you can’t ride a horse.
imagine zombie sharks

To maintain my sanity I will not permit myself to do this.
just read the comic #1 - #68 in two days! its awesomely good. carl is a badass kid btw. ![]()
i would get an RV, fortify it with metal plates, bars/grilles on the windows, slots for chainsaws (like dawn of the dead), and a turret gun on top.

The real problem would be security during downtime (as you mentioned) and fuel availability.
Depending on the type of zombie a rope anchor should work (some types may not be able to climb a rope).
Fuel? Sails.
a large sail boat (for sustainabily i.e. a sustainable garden large enough to support you and a few other survivors) with an out board motor in case you run into a Rime of the Aincent Mariner scenario (no wind type of thing … stranded).
As far as rope anchor…they’d be able to climb up to a point considering all they have to do is follow the rope from the water, they’d be essentially weightless in the water…and when you raise anchor they’d be clinging to it and you’d unwittingly be pulling them up.
That’s the problem right there…

I’d find a way to get to a sparsely populated tropical island with enough ammunition to purge the local zombie population. I find it hard to believe that zombies could re-infest the island by walking long distances along the ocean floor.
Problem is you definitely wouldn’t be the only one shooting for a lush tropical island no matter how remote it is … People would still be trying to get to that island and probably bringing infected with them.
And you need to read Max Brooks’ World War Z if you think that zombies can’t/won’t wander around on the sea floor…
Sure chances are slim they would wash up , but every once in aw hile they would. Someone could get bit, then another, then another…boom now you’re on Zombie Island.
If you really want to do this you need to first set up a quarantine zone on the island to ensure safety and then set up a perimeter in case some undead wash up on shore, and have constant patrols by the uninfected inhabitants. On top of that is resources and sustainability. Basically, as long as you organize properly, you island idea is a decent one that could yield very good results as long as you stay on top of your game…

^^If you were on a large enough boat your anchor wouldn’t actually be pulled on board. It would be mechanically raised and settle into a grove/guard on the side of the ship… That would prevent zombies from getting on board because the hole for the anchor chain would be only large enough for the chain.
A big yacht would be the best… preferably with a helo pad and a pilot.
If there was a zombie outbreak the first place I would try to head back to would be my old job (military).
I would raid my old teams armory and load up on as many weapons as I could get ahold of… along with ammo. I’d gather several pairs of NVG’s along with a couple thermal imagery systems. I dont think they would be that useful with finding zombies because of the lack of a heat signature but they would be good at distinguishing between zombies and humans at night. I would then hit up the comms room and grab several radios, hand held and some man pack radios as well.
As far as vehicles go I would go for an armored vehicle. If I could get an armored humvee and mount a 240 (or twin 240’s) on top that would be legit. Fill up a few jerry cans of gasoline and be on my way.
Not sure where exactly I’d hold up but that would depend on many of my friends and family survived the initial outbreak. It would obviously be much easier if it was a small group.
I know I would do well in a zombie outbreak but ultimately survival would depend on the type of outbreak.
The zombies do eat animals. In issue #3 of the comic, one is eating a deer.

Now I am regretting not having taken the time to become a Navy Seal. You guys probably had a whole zombie apocalypse training course.
On land, I think a horse would be ideal [assuming they don’t eat animals]. If not, then something big like an old school Hummer or Bronco or something. Also, wouldn’t it make the most sense to use a small plane or helicoptor? You could get away from anything and cover ground much faster, and also scout zombie free locations better. As far as weapons go, if I’m driving the SUV I’d like to have a turret attached, and an arsenal of pistols, shotguns and high powered rifles at my disposal, but I’d go with something that doesn’t require fuel or ammo more often than not like a broad sword, double-headed axe, large sickle, etc… Save the ammo for when it’s truly needed. Also, this show looks fucking awesome.

I like the helicopter idea. I plane though would need a runway to take off and land. What about having a big boat a couple miles off shore with a helipad on it. You can stay safe on the boat and use the helicopter to stock up on supplies.

Damn did not see this post but, this is exactly what I would do.

Helicopters require 2 hours of mainenance for every hour in the sky.
They also typically use Jet A fuel, which is not exactly easy and — like gasoline — goes bad after time.
Diesel engined boat would be good, perhaps a sailboat with diesel engines better.
^^^ Then a helicoptor should work well, provided you found a zombie free island or something. You could maintain it on your down time. Really, if you did find a zombie free island then the only time you’d need to deal with zombies is when you left to get supplies, but if you had a small farm on your island with crops and livestock you wouldn’t need to leave often, unless you went to try and help others. Having a weightroom on the island would help so you can train to be bigger, stronger and faster in case of a zombie confrontation. Lift some weights, run some sprints, spar with others to keep your fight game sharp, shoot targets to keep your aim up, and presto: Zombie killing machine.

and you could helo in some cows… Thats what I was saying… a helicopter would be legit. especially if you had one with mounted weapons… like a mini gun. You would wreck house with a GAU 17
