ZMA vs. Melatonin

Well, after 3 nights I can say that what sleep I’m getting does seem better then on melatonin. I say “what sleep” because I’m still having trouble falling asleep as well the dreams are still waking me up at least once a night then I struggle to fall back to sleep.

Yes I believe melatonin can be habit forming because your body will stop producing the hormone if you take it for to long; however talking to other people who use it regularly, if you can take a month off it seems to reset it for some time.

Once my body resets my melatonin receptiveness I may start using it sporadically with ZMA when I’m having trouble falling asleep. I want to wait awhile because I think the reason I’m having trouble falling asleep on the ZMA is my body is still dependent on the melatonin. I’ll see what it’s like later into the month once I’m through more of the bottle.

Slightly off the topic but I have been taking 3-5g of Glycine before bed and it has dramatically improved my quality of sleep and general mood.

I say this off the back off trying ZMA, Valerian root and Z-12. All of which had good results by and large but i seem to get the most consistancy with Glycine. On a side note, I still take ZMA, not for the sleep quality and not before bed, purely so I am stocked up with Zinc and Magnesium.

I’ve never heard of Glycine, at least that I can remember. I’ll have to look into this depending on my results with ZMA.

You could also try Garlic Extract with some Vit.C (150-200mg).

does anyone have recommendations for taking/cycling melatonin?

I’ve been taking 9mg a night for 2 years. According to someone who worked as a pharmacists assistant she said you should try going off for a month occasionally to let your body reset, and the months you are on it switch brands often.
