I’ve been taking ZMA for a month now (just finished my first bottle) and I’ve noticed if I get in bed under 30 minutes from taking the ZMA, I wake up (usually around 5am or 6am) with a killer stomach ache. I have to sit upright for about 20 minutes before it goes away. Laying down with the stomach ache just makes it worse.
However, if I wait 45-60 minutes after taking ZMA to get in bed, I sleep normal. Anybody else experience this?

I’d recomend waiting all 45 minutes then
Are you sure it isn’t something besides the time you wait to go to bed? Start keeping a log of everything you do for the last 4-5 hours before bed and see if there’s a pattern besides your ZMA.
Sometimes I’ll end up with a bad what feels like intestinal ache if I don’t go to the bathroom for long enough in bed.

Thanks for the advice, I think a log for a week or two would be a good idea to see if there are some things I’m overlooking.
I’ve always had a testy stomach during sleep times. I remember in high school I couldn’t eat cereal for at least 30-45 min after waking up or I’d get bad stomach aches for most of the morning. I’m not lactose intolerant though, I drink alot of milk during the day with no problem, maybe I’m just lactose inolerant when I first wake up (if that’s possible?)
And who knows, maybe I do just have to go to the bathroom. Ever since I’ve upped my calorie intake, I go to the bathroom about 3 times more than I used to. I can’t sit at my desk for more than 30-45 minutes without having to go.
Many minerals can cause stomach irritation (gastritis) in susceptible individuals when taken on an empty stomach. Usually this will make you feel queasy or nauseous. Zinc and Iron are two of the ones that are more well-known for causing these kinds of symptoms.
Somtimes it depends on how much or what form you take, however, if you are prone to this, then just take it with some food. Should solve the problem.
