Okay eating today
I had a crappy workout. Only got 3 sets of bench in, 170 x 4, 165 x 5, and 165 x maybe 3 or 4 I forget. I just could not find any strength. I think it might be from the clapping pushups from the day before, and also the clapping pushups, wide pushups, and pushups we did during our warmup (about 40ish total, its not a lot but 12 clapping pushups probably did something). Didn’t squat at all really. I got my pullups in atleast.
I did get to do assistance work. One leg extensions for some time, and some banded knee straigten outs or whatever they were called. I did some hamstring curls, but not really anything major. Did a few things for core, but mostly just goofing off to pass time. Crappy workout really. Oh well
On a better note, my college program was REALLY good today! I really felt at home. I socialized plenty, I felt natural, and was focused pretty well on what I was doing.
What Im doing, at the moment, is finding out a way to get the moss to grow its protonemal growths onto the agar plate. As of yet, I have had ZERO results (moss growth, anyways. PLENTY of molds and bacteria!). Currently I’m trying a method called vortex bead beating, where I place a tubevial with moss, water, and a steel ball, onto a vortexer, which vibrates/mixes the living daylights out of the moss. It breaks up the cells, which should put the organelles and DNA in the solution, more accessable to use. Im doing a bit of work on the more efficient ways to do it. I have the crude solution I make, which is a suspension of sorts, and then I can centrifuge it to crash out the substances. Im experiementing with time with this, it seems that it only needs a few seconds for that. Really, I might just need to let it settle out, without using the centrifuge. Or, I can centrifuge it fully, and take the pellet of matter and do something with that. Or, a combination of methods.
We are also getting a mortar and pestle for a more physical approach, which probably will work better but we will see next week.
Anyways, I had a really good time there today. I DEFINITELY want that sort of environment for my career. I love the whole procedural scientific method and stuff.
