Cailer Woolam pulls an incredible 938lbs / 426kg for a lifetime PR. Not sure of bodyweight but probably still in the 220s. May have to change the name of the thread to “Cailer Woolam God of Sumo”.
Belkin failed 430kg on his third attempt at BOB IV but knowing him he’ll get it soon. As it stands tho Woolam is ahead. In the coming years these two between them are going to keep pushing the DL record in the 198s, 220s and 242s .
Maybe in a few years we’ll see a 1000lb pull from one of these gods of sumo.
Yury Belkin goes 390kg on squat and 225kg on the second try for his third bench. Don’t know what he weighed in for this comp but his wilks is going to be crazy.
Belkin opens DL with a huge 425kg (At BOBIV in Aug he opened 400, pulled 420 for his second and failed 430). Pulls it easy enough.
440kg called for his second. Slow down in bar speed is apparent overall, slow off the floor too, but the transition is smooth and he locks it out without there being any real doubt he’d get the lift.
The live comments overflow with cyka and blyat in that order as Belkin calls for an almost unbelievable 461kg.
Spoke too soon tho. Seems there’s been a mix up. It’s up on the screen but after flurry of gestures and Russian it appears the attempt is not being taken… yet.
Almost a dozen lifts later the screen lights up. Yury Belkin 461kg. Extra loaders step up to the platform as the sheer amount of plates doesn’t seem to be behaving. Finally the stage is set for Belkin. The bar is loaded.
Up steps Belkin for the final pull of the meet. One hip pump to set his grip then he drops back deeper and pulls. The bar bends so much its almost unreal but it’s not coming off the ground. The plates begin to lift of the ground but it’s too slow and the plates end up breaking all of two inches above the ground. A miss but not surprising.
Belkin SBD 390/225/440kg ATWR Total @242 1055kg/2326lbs
EDIT Apparently Belkin missed the 220/100kg weight class and weighed in at 103kg for a 634 wilks. God of Sumo… for sure. Pound for pound greatest lifter? Wilks seems to say so
All attempts. Aggressive weight selections, 4 attempts on squat, more or less squatting 370kg thrice missing the first two by losing balance at the top. Big bumper plate looking 50kg plates for extra whip are put on for the deadlift (think its a WRPF thing lel).
If this is what a poor meet looks like how much more has he got?
@103kg in the 110s/242s beats the world record by over 100lbs. Maybe not a official world record due some of the previously mentioned factors.
Thanks man. This was from a while ago but it’s nice to hear stuff from the man himself. Tbh was expecting something like Konstantins Konstantinovs voice to come out of his mouth lel.
From this HD view can really see how WRPF 50kg bumpers and the deadlift bar help him make the lift. By the time everything is off the floor the bar is most of the way to lockout. Maximum cheating
Some T Nation Russian translation action would be nice too especially for the vid from WPRF Worlds 2017 where this pull was done. Maybe he blurts out the secret to pulling near 1000lbs. Will pay for translation services in GIFs
This may be a bit too early or have flown under the radar a bit but in the past few days looks like Yury Belkin’s took another stab at Benni Magnusson’s all time heaviest powerlifting (i.e. comp rules) open deadlift of 1015lbs by edging it with a 461kg / 1016lb pull.
For a long time people have said “All the heaviest deadlifters are conventional pullers” which is already bullshit but if Belkin manages to pull 461kg a sumo puller will have the heaviest powerlifting deadlift ever. He attempted 461kg for his third deadlift at WRPF Pro 2017 in late October but never really looked like getting it.
Stuff was all in Russian so I’m not sure about this but apparently this happened at IPL World Bench Press & Deadlift, Moscow, Russia. Am assuming Belkin went with deadlift only. Warm ups were flying up with purpose because Belkin and his team had a pretty unconventional plan. Open with and take one attempt at 461kg, conserving as much energy as possible for the lift.
Can’t really say this attempt was much closer than the attempt at WRPF Pro so maybe finally the god of sumo is looking human. May have done better if he had the big WRPF cheater 50kg bumper plates on the bar instead of Eleiko discs.
May be a while before we see Yury take this record similarly to how his progress slowed around about Ed Coan’s ATWR but in the end he overcame that and made insane progress since. What’s next for the Russian? Probably the heaviest powerlifting deadlift ever and beyond. Maybe next time Belkin throws on a suit he can take a stab at Eddie Hall’s 500kg as well.
I really hope he pulls it with all legit plates. Those three records his, 181 untested and the one that broke gants record I feel are bs. Here’s a Pic for you guys they apparently turn the plates into a podium afterwards.
If you look yurys is a bit further out on the bar. But yes I’m a little mad i don’t think we would see an 881 pull at 181 without those thick plates. You can see how much harder it was for him to pull the record in the 165s I believe with all standard plates. Honestly I really wanted to go for both tested and untested at the same time. Maybe I’m just hating.
