Your Top 3 RPG's

FFT/7 (Don’t need to say anything more about these two)
Vampire the Masquerade (Great PC RPG, Shame how White Wolf won’t make another one)
Breath of Fire II (No one has mentioned this one yet, gotta love Katt)
Secret of Mana (A non turn based JRPG, a breath of fresh air into the genre)
Skies of Arcadia (No dreamcast love? VERY underrated game)

This is a fucking great thread. Gamers who know their shit about RPGs are the best kind.

I don’t know if it’s really a RPG but I had alot of fun with oblivion…until you find the console, that ruins the game

yeah, that’s what we’d call a western role playing game. and you can choose not to use console commands dude.

that’s the difference between metagaming and role playing. the choice of playing the game as opposed to winning the game.

FF7 will always be my favorite. I think I was in Grade 3 when it was released. The game’s world felt absolutely endless and the story felt so big. At the time, I thought that the entire game was going to take place in Midgar…

It’s weird but there’s moments you can distinctly look back on and remember as a kid. I can distinctly remember playing this game over my friends house and getting out of Midgar and realizing it was just one white dot on that huge world map.

Which Final Fantasy had the card game and the underwater rugby sort of game (blitzball maybe?). I remember that game sucked but those mini-games were fun as shit.

That was 10. i wouldnt say it sucked, i mean Auron was cool as shit. The rest of the game wasnt much too brag about, but the side quests were fun.

As far as FF8 goes, i cant say i liked that game in the slightest. I thought that was one of the worst final fantasys ive ever played. All the chars were queermo Dbags, the gunblade of the main char was retarded, essentially a blade attached to a chamber. The coolest part about ff8 for me was the Summon Diablo, and even he sucked cuz demi didnt work on 90% of the creatures.

Also, for ocarina of time, yes, it is one of the greatest games of all time. Its definitely up there. Honestly, maybe i posted my top 3 too quickly, looking back i might change things
1- FF3/6- Still without a doubt the greatest.
2-Ocarina of time
3-Chrono Trigger.
Ff7 was great, and it pains me deeply to make this switch…but its for the best *tear

Yeah it was FFX with that underwater sport. I hated the mechanics of the blitzball thing. I never bothered with it. I found Yuna quite annoying.

I agree about FF8. I personally didn’t like any of the characters and the story was wayyyy to blown up/melodramatic. You could also breeze through that game easy with the junction system for battles.

OH and true that with diablos, you’d sit there watching a long epic animation then it would pop up with the lowest amount of damage imaginable!

The game today feels small…sometimes I wish I was a kid again and rediscover games like this. Games today just don’t have that same effect anymore. :stuck_out_tongue:

Feel the same way… I remember playing that over one middle school summer. It was massive. I think I went back and played it through a few years later. I don’t think I could ever go back and play it though.

The story is so intense and the game is so long and the technology for the time was mind-blowing for an 11 yr old.

I don’t really have an interest in console games at this point, it’s just not the same anymore like when I was a kid. I have been playing some SC2 beta though!

Yeah man it’s a shame. Games don’t really captivate me like they used to anymore. The only things I touch now are online multi-player games that are fast paced or quick pick up and play games (guitar hero etc.)

I do find myself re playing old games like the many mentioned in this thread. Nostalgia is great!

1-Final Fantasy IX - strange, but the odd characters and artwork made it great IMO
2-Dragon Age Origins - yes, the hack and slash got a little old, but the depth to the story was amazing
3-Golden Sun - yes, I did just mention a game boy advance game as an incredible RPG. I got this, didnt have much hopes, and ended up playing it over and over again. No, its not as deep as other RPG’s, but dammit I thought it was a blast.

honorable mentions that would be 4 and 5 - KOTOR and Mass Effect

It always start that you don’t want to use the console,it’s much more fun to play it legitimately

but then you are in need of lockpicks at the end of the cave, or you are very close to dying and the autosave was made looong ago and you will have to wait 3 min for the loading, or you need 20 alchemical ingredients to be accepted again in the mage guild and you don’t feel like wasting 1h30 for that

…and finally you are using the console all the time and you stop playing shortly after.

not gonna let the awesome thread die just yet, so lets switch it up. VIDEO GAMES THAT DESERVE HONORABLE MENTION
-Mega Man 2, and a song to back up my claims:

you guys will appreciate this haha

hahah

  1. Fallout Series
  2. Mass Effect Series
  3. Elder Scrolls Series

Honorable mention:

To Dragon Age series, but Awakenings was buggy as hell.
To KOTOR series, nothing bad to say, just don’t have the special place in my heart that the others do.
To Fable series, fun but very shallow/artificial worlds. I’m running around with horns and glowing. Flee damn you!

Also, Final Fantasy 13 is an awful, awful game. Rented it a few days ago. Waste of time.

  1. Pokemon Blue - Silver and Ruby were brilliant as well but Blue just brings back all the memories
  2. Final Fantasy 7 - best storyline ever
  3. Golden Sun - ditto on the person who said it was amazing. When it came out I couldn’t believe you could get those graphics on a GBA. Oh my god it came out 9 years ago , now I feel old

Anyone here ever play the Pagan Ultima series?

3? 3? Really? Lets change this to a top 10 or top 15 or top 20 list, more interesting.

  1. Oblivion
  2. FFVII
  3. Morrowind
  4. KOTOR
  5. FFX
  6. FFIX
  7. Dragon Warrior
  8. The Legend of Zelda
  9. Baldurs Gate
10)Desgea Hour of Darkness (this might be considered a strategy game but whatever)
    11)Fallout III
    12)Fable 2
    13)Fable
    14)Neverwinter Nights
    15)KOTOR Sith Lords

Ok that may not be the exact order, but on any given day I would fire up any of those games in a heartbeat to kill some time.

V

  1. Get a life
  2. get a life
  3. get a life
