Your IQ?

How are having a PhD and IQ related in the context of your argument? Not everybody with a PhD has a high IQ. Having a PhD has more to do with perseverance and love for one’s work than IQ. Oh and it is know not now.

Hey!! Don’t second-guess him. He has an IQ of 169 (or 103, depending on the test).

Power and influence. On a more material level, money and fame/favours. And when we go really deep, satisfaction. I’m satisfied with my life. I still lack the rest, though. But I don’t want to be greedy, just give me the money and I’ll be okay.

Mensa scored you at 169 and you can’t figure out that with this formula your projected score would be higher than your origianl score, drop until you reach 100 at which point it starts to get bigger?!

That formula doesn’t make sense.

Do you understand that IQ doesn’t mean anything becasue it changes depending on the circumstances surrounding the test? The only true measure is if one is tested as a young child (where one has had relatively low contact with any stimulus outside of the home). This test is designed to measure unbiased cognitive skills–meaning the test cannot be themeatic in nature. It measures ones ability to make logical deductions not answer questions based on biased information. The link posted does not measure ones IQ.

I think you make some very good points. Being happy or satisfied with your life is a very large part of being successful.

How money plays into the equation, I’m not sure.

The things that “book smart” people get accused of apply to non-book-smart people as well. I know plenty of people who parrot about what J Lo wore to the Oscars, or what they heard on the news. Critical thinking is indeed rare, but it isn’t the exclusive province of any one group.

By the way, I’m a PhD student in Computational and Neurolinguistics, so I might be a bit biased. However, why is it that when I tell people what I do, they almost always have no idea, and act bewildered, even though they know the words “computer”, “neuro”, and “linguist”?
Maybe the thesis for your PhD program can be determining why Madonna now has an British accent when she was born in Brookland NY and only moved to England recently?

Money was more of a joke. Money is at it’s best when it erases it’s own existence; bills payed and a few extra coins in your pocket.

I took this funny little test online and it supposedly gave me my IQ score. I ended up with a 132, which I think is about right. Generally speaking, I often feel like IQ scores can be skewed or not representative of real life intelligence.

I didnt come on here to boast about myself since I’m sure there are plenty of smarties here on T-Nation. But I’m curious out of curiousity sake, what do some of the rest of you rate? I’m sure someone like Professor X would blow me out of the water.

How smart is everybody here??
Ha,ha Beat ya! I got a 133. Do you believe in iq tests? There is supposedly a “G” factor.

lol very true… mensa is just plain pretentious and full of arogant silly people.

…with limited means to meet people and interact with them socially.

Of course, I’m generalizing here, but my point is that they typically hide behind the guise that they just can’t have meaningful conversations or relationships with the limp-brained general population who have no comprehension of how difficult it is to be brilliant.

Now that I think about it, this site is not dissimilar to MENSA in that we get so fed up with the training and nutritional idiots of the world, so we come to this forum and degrade them (as well as to learn and share ideas).

Emotional iq supposedly a much more important factor.

I think I agree with you on that.

This is an interesting site on the topic: http://hem.bredband.net/b153434/Index.htm

Also, the thing about celebrity IQs is that you don’t know which test they took. I think Sharon Stone has a score of 150 of the Cattell which, according to the website, converts to 131 on the Weschler and 133 on the Stanford-Binet. The latter two scales are more standard.

She`s probably a natural for this type of thing. I know a couple of people who change their accents unconsciously with time when they go abroad for some time. And it takes them some time to revert back to their natural one when they are back here. Hard to believe, but yes it happens, for a small minority.

135 on the Stanford-Binet. I guess I’m slightly smarter than Sharon Stone. I also did the test after working night shift three in a row with little sleep. I had higher scores when I was younger…hmph…I guess it could be age-related brain degerative changes. That, or working nights in a crazy ER and being chronically sleep deprived (my brain gets too lazy to have to think after work, it just wants to go to sleep!).

The score does make sense per the table below, I am a nurse (120) and I did get accepted into law schools (130) when I was 20-21 years old, and always fantasize about being a surgeon (130)- either Cardiovascular or Cosmetic (boobies doctor). Hehe, thankfully I changed my mind about being a lawyer…only kidding, law t-peeps.

you got something on your nose.

Anyways, about the OAC thing how the hell did I know that they don’t have that in US, I’ve only been in canada for 8 years, get your shit straight dude before you try and seem smart.

And whoever it was that said something about being 169 mensa and 103 whatever the fuck it is, yes I was about 6 when I did it, like you said, and it was done by a psychologist in a school setting. Also your both dicks stop trying to assault other peoples intelligence because you might be dumb asses…also when did I EVER claim to be “smart” you ass goblins, in fact I could give a shit, if I did I would’nt say it was 103 now would I.

Oh wait i’m prolly to dumb for that…finally and ULTIMATELY, my penis is bigger than both you…both of you as wholes, and thats what really matters in this world…

Discuss.

My whole point is that IQ means nothing, neither does what education you have. In terms of intelligence, there are people out there with unbelieveable intelligence that have NO education, so what if someone has 3 letters on a plaque.

And I totally agree with what you find results in a phd, however I think perserverance should be left out of that equation, love is enough to result…By the way I “now” how to spell asshole, are you one of those lifeless keyboard jockeys who just enjoy picking EVERYTHING apart at an attempt to feel superior in some sick twisted way, maybe the reason I made a type is because I don’t give a shit on the internet, rather than my fingers sticking to my cummy keyboard like some people.

Where’d you get that table from? That’s interesting…

Its funny because I was also called “blessed” when I took an IQ test in elementary school. Of course I never skipped grades because of it and never knew what my score was. In fact, my parents were called by the school because I was the talk of the teachers lounge and because they all thought I had cheated.

My kindergarten teacher originally wanted to hold me back because she thought i was a moron. Goes to show one person’s genius is another’s mental retard.

I know I was curious to ask this question here because some consider me close to brain dead and others close to brillance. I know that the T-posters here often make me feel like the fat kid that never got picked to play dodgeball.

I think these IQ tests are based more on the knowledge retained (memory) rather than actual intelligence.

I once heard a possible explanation for Albert Einsteins intelligence. I dont recall where I read it because it was so long ago. But apparently, it was said his extreme intelligence was due to a mutation of the brain. Unlike normal humans, part of the two hemispheres of his brain were fused together.

He has a normal division in the brain up until the back of the head where it was fused and impossible to tell which hemisphere began and where it left off.

Maybe I got my info wrong. Has anyone else heard of this before?
