Your Beneficial Nutritional Habits

I didn’t know what to call this thread.

When I wanted to drop weight, even better than cardio, adding celery to every freaking meal had me dropping weight like crazy. It was easy, it was filling and it wasn’t expensive.

I save my water bottles for quick Grow! shakes when I get hungry. I drink water anyways and this way I don’t worry about washing my shaker bottles.

Since getting the info about not taking calcium and iron togther I don’t. I do have a pill box and when I get up I take my aspirin and calcium first thing in the morning.

So… . do you have any good, easy, nutritional habits that you can share?

not really anything special but I prefer taking a powdered multivitamin and using it sublingually.

I feel it works better than a pill and is better for you.

I also mix certain things in water bottles and take them along with me.

Tackle Boxes make great pill boxes.

Pineapple, Cottage Cheese, Rasberries = awesomeness. (eating it as we speak)

maybe not much but hey whatchagonnado? lol

I didn’t know they had mulivitamins in powder form.

why is that better for you?

I think it breaks down better, but then I feel absorption is not necessarily tied directly to breakdown.

So, just because it is powdered and not in solid, pill form, should not mean that you necessarily absorb the vitamins that much better. I am unsure, though.

I drink green tea with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice because I read the vitamin C greatly improves the anti-oxidant power of green tea.

For about 1-2 weeks, every 8-12 week or so, I drink pure, tart cranberry juice (tart, as in there is maybe 8g sugar per 4 oz serving, and you mix 1 part juice with 1-2 parts water) and take milk thistle to cleanse my liver.

I think taking tons of pills in general taxes the liver, so I try to cycle off of EVERYTHING and go with pure cranberry juice (about 4 oz of juice a day) and milk thistle, for 1-2 weeks.

Also to cleanse the liver, I have found the following to be potentially useful, though I have not yet tried to use them:

Red Clover
Gentian
Burdock

For immunity, I strongly believe in Rez-V at 200mg a day, but also:

Goldenseal
Sarasaparilla
Myrrh
Olive Leaf Extract
Sage
Chaparral
Red Marine Algea

I wouldn’t take all of these together, but Olive Leaf Extract I’ve heard a lot about and also Red Marine Algae. Take these when you feel a really bad flu coming on, and take it for about 7-10 days.

Personally, I believe in a maintenance dose and Rx dose. Meaning, if there is a supplement that is good to take routinely but exhibits anti-anything properties, it might be good to bump up the dose 2-3x fold to combat the acute episode of something.

For sore throats and coughing, in my culture we use dried quince seeds, about half a teaspoon of them put into maybe 4 oz of hot water. Let sit for 15 min or so and the seeds will develop a gelatinous coating. Drink the fluid - let it cool down to wear you can do this, obviously - and suck on the seeds for 15-20 min. Very good for sore throat.

I posted the following about scars in someone’s log today:

For scars, you can purchase a cream made from mother of pearl, at a Mexican grocery store (maybe a Mexican pharamacy if you can find one), and they call it “crema de concha nacar.” The pearl has a bleaching agent that lightens discolored skin.

I think using that with perhaps some broken Vit E caps rubbed on the treated area and, at other times, fresh aloe vera (scraped out of an actual leaf) may facilitate faster healing of the skin tissue. You can actually lacerate an aloe vera plant and it will close up within 5-7 days. Really amazing.

For inflammation and stomach ulcers, there is a tea made from a plant that I believe is only found in certain parts of Mexico. The tea is called “cuachalalate” (species name: Julianaceae) and is an amazing anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcerative. If you get the tea bags, you can reuse them for about 2 brews. if you get the bark, take a chunk the size of a tablespoon and boil for 15 min in a max of 1 L (32 oz) of water, min of 16 oz should work, though. Drink within a few days.

Studies:

In my shakes, I only use chia seeds (not salba, which I believe is just ground chia but is unnecessarily expensive) for fiber and for its omega-3 content and like to take a probiotic and bromelain with the shakes to help with digestion.

For the shake/drink I take DURING my workout, I throw in 1/8-1/4 TSP Celtic sea salt for electrolyte balance. Speaking of salt, it is an amazing combination of flavor to have a bowl of pomegranate seeds, chilled in the fridge for maybe an hour, with a sprinkle of sea salt. Unbelievable

(I will post more as I think of them…)

Hey Ponce? Do you mean you take in NOTHING but cranberry juice for that week to two weeks? or do you mean you add it to your daily nutrition?

for general good to know stuff, Visine is great on zits, it takes the redness out of the area and seems to clear up the zit quick.

Peppermint tea is good to settle an upset stomach

Potatoes reduce intestinal gas, add it to gassy foods you eat

I started using a roller for my neck and it was suggested I try a chilled soda can. That worked really well.

Yes, I try to wittle down my supplementation to nada while I’m taking the cranberry / milk thistle. I’ll throttle back the fish oil but maybe keep that in.

Ginger tea works better for upset stomach and nausea, at least I have found it to work for more people. Better than peppermint tea is 1-2 drops of pure peppermint oil in 6-8 oz of water (room temp, not ice cold).

Awesome fever reducer: watermelon chunks blended with ice. There is a ‘cousin’ to cantaloupe that works even better but I do not think it grows here natively.

Dates provide a ridiculous amount of calories, like 150-200 per, if I recall. It’s from all the sugar so it’s a good PWO snack.

I think that finding the right amount of fish oil for YOU personally can help greatly.

At one point I was taking WAY too much. (8 Flameout & 10 vitamin world brand) I took myself off all of it for about 2 weeks, started to get sore longer and super achey…so then I slowly added it back in to the point where I felt better.

It saved me from wasting supplements and money.

Another gem: A Foam Roller Is Awesome.

For nutrition? lol

Try implementing a couple of “control” meals into your diet… something that stays relatively constant in terms of ingredients from week to week and is easily adjusted:

e.g.
Almonds, Goji berries and a milk protein based shake.

Means you can very easily change up the other meals but the control meals “soak up” the changes to keep macros/calories the same (or with your current goal).

Fritattas - cook them. You can eat like a wedge of pizza and you can fit a massive dose of vegetables and meat inside  Awesome food on the go.

With regards to keeping hydrated… I chug a litre with every meal and a single glass every time I go to the toilet.

Uncooked Spinach.

Every time I start to feel bad, or tired I’ll up my spinach intake and it almost always does the trick.

why the hell did i put a foam roller in there?

jesus.

i agree with the control day item too; i’ve been doing that for about 1.5mo and it’s doing pretty nicely. I’ve lost my “fluffiness” to my midsection.

I’ve been told that certain vitamins absorb better through the mouth sublingually .vs. through the GIT. Some multivitamins are glue bonded and our body’s can’t do anything witht that glue so it either sticks around and causes problems or our body’s have to figure out a way to rid itself of it. I try and take powders or capsules for this reason. Popping a bunch of pills that ‘may’ be glue bonded doesn’t sound cool to me. lol

Also mine taste good  lol

Orangina works better than Coke or Pepsi.

I loathe cold, but the neck was so bad I tried everything.

the curve of the soda can along my neck and shoulders finally helped

One day we’ll meet in person and on that day, the curve of my thumb along your neck and shoulders will sort you out a treat!

Seriously though, I’m glad you are getting some relief finally.

I wonder if the neck thing has to do with my bad mood!

it feels better, but it comes back.

hhmmmmm

and yes… I am pretty sure your hands on me would be a treat … all diagnostic… I mean
