You Lucky Youngsters!

Holy hell-ass christing damn. This thread wins the Internets.

Really, this is the hardest I’ve laughed since I woke up last.

Alright. I am just curious then, perhaps you can inform me as to how many people died under Saddam. And perhaps you can peer into your crystal ball and tell me how many will die in this civil war. Look, sometimes civil wars need to be fought. Even if we went in, killed Saddam and got out to leave the place in chaos it still would have been worthwhile. The problem with civil wars is that they often become genocidal. If we could actually allow the war to go on while protecting civilians, that would be ideal, unfortunately that is damn hard, but it sure seems like we aren’t doing too bad at that though I wish we could be doing better.
I have no idea how many people have died, or will die, and here’s the kicker: neither does anyone else.
I could get you different figures from a hundred-and-one sources but that wouldn’t prove anything. You can’t argue by anecdote when each side presents its own anecdotes. Doing so will leave you trapped in a vicious circle. Tossing numbers and links at your opponents, and them tossing their own numbers and links back at you. That’s idiocy, and that’s the bread and butter of most online political discussions. I try to avoid that as much as I can, by focusing on the theoretical and philosophical aspects of various issues. Some reject this approach because it isn’t “grounded” in “real world information”.

But if an argument is to be grounded in real-world anecdotes, of the type referred to above, it’s presenter must choose his information selectively. He must embrace some “facts” and “reject” others. Because different people will select different facts, we’re right back in the same mess as before – anecdotal warfare.

The moral of this is: NEVER trust somebody who claims to know “the truth” about an issue and is eager to share it. Such people are either lunatics, swindlers, or priests. The world is inconceivably diverse. Humans systems of “truth” cannot account for the sheer complexity and diversity of nature. They are thus systems of lies which enslave their followers. The reality is that nobody knows what the hell they are talking about – including me. People are simply reciting the anecdotes that have been inculcated in them through years of environmental reinforcement.

Headhunter,
I read your introduction and decided to post just as I finished cleaning the mess up. That is, the mess I made because I ate my midnight snack while reading the post, spitting out precious food on my keyboard as a result.

I know I should stop eating while browsing T-Nation. At first I REALLY believed this post would be a joke, then it dawned me like in the cartoons, when the coyote realizes he went of a cliff and will be owned by Mr.Gravity in a few seconds.
My roomate even woke up from my laughter. Seriously, Headhunter, you shouldn’t do this anymore.

But you actually seem to believe that crap, right?
So sad, some 50 year old guy craving for adventure, knowing he probably wont’t save the world with his M60, desperate to protect his childish fantasies.

Wake up. Politics are much more complicated and certainly the poor soldiers dying in Iraq aren’t heroes.

P.S.:
“…the only country founded on reason, logic and christian principles…” -what a load of crap!

That nutcase isnt seriously a teacher, did i misread that?

Headhunter, as far as i know you can also join the military in peace times, why didnt you do that in like 1974? In those times would have even most likely went to the beautiful country of Kraut! And until the age of 40 u can go to the French foreign legion, the most professional soldiers on earth. There have been so many possibilities for wannebe rambos like you, but you messed up. Must be a sad life…

Thank god you have Savage and Coulter to channel your frustration.

Shame on all of you for picking on the retarded kid.

I want all of you to go to your rooms and think about what you’ve done.

Where did you get that pic of HH?

I haven’t responded in this thread in a long while, for the simple reason that certain (cretinous) responders were simply looking for any reason to bash me. The point of the thread was to encourage those of you who’re young and more capable to become pro-active. (I am too old to participate and to join up.) Imagine someday how you’ll feel when you didn’t take a stand. For health reasons, the Navy rejected me (asthma) and I feel bad. If you’re young AND HEALTHY, imagine how YOU"LL feel. So, if you’re young and healthy, get behind you’re country.

Of course, if you believe all the stupid and vile crap put out by power-mad individuals, that the war is wrong and Bush is a terrorist (hint: they’re doing that for POWER. Never dawns on them that if we’re all dead, they’d have no one to boss), then don’t join. Smoke your joints, play the male slut, have your meaningless jobs and meaningless lives. America will go on without you and you’ll be like a pile of shit by the side of the road —passed and long forgotten.

No one will ever know you were here.

As opposed to your life of wonder? The one where espouse Ayn Rand babblings on a lifting site, and it gets to the point that half the people you come in contact with can’t believe they let you teach children?

Personally I don’t dislike you. However, you’re a loon and your ideas are not things that should be purveyed. I also don’t like that someone like you could one day be teaching my own kids such morals as “Fuck Katrina victims, I still don’t want to pay taxes”.
I really thought this was another joke until reading through and realizing that HH is serious. He is seriously advocating for young, healthy males to join up to fight in a war and possibly die because he feels guilty for not serving himself. He has serious issues and I pray that he can find some peace with them.

Also, since he doesn’t like paying taxes, and the military is funded though tax money, I guess he won’t mind paying each of these young men that took his advice out of his own pocket.

Please seek professional help.

I have been thinking on this a little.

HH, instead of telling kids to do something that will get them shot at, why not push them to become engineers? Something America needs more of (the homegrown variety). In the long run they will do more for this country than lugging a M16 around a sandtrap.

Head, I have talked to a few young men, that have been in the sand box and they say they will not sign up again that its B.S. but they are told not to talk about it when they talked to their parents or when they came home, also know a family man that ,his money wasnt getting to his family to pay their bills, house payment etc. while in afgan. The 2 young men were ate up with the gung ho bravado crap till they went and saw the true happenings.

Also they were promised to learn something that they could use for a career when they were out,but they both said didnt learn anything except how to shoot a rifle. You remind me of the DUMBASS gym teacher/volleyball coach at my childrens middle school.when the war first started he had camo tee-shirts printed that said SHOCK & AWE {schools name} VOLLEYBALL!! You can tell the guy works out and is on roids, and he runs around with a drill sargent demeanor trying to intimidate little seventh & eigth graders.

Some of these teachers need to get out in the real world and work with real men for awhile instead of running around trying to play mind games and being impressive to young kids that dont know any better. Also instead of being mad at people that dont like your ideas,You should be pissed at georgie’s daddy and his crew for not taking care of this situation the first time they were their. If you remember Stormin Norman wanted to take care of it but they would’nt let him ,And if you notice he retired pretty quick after seeing that they werent serious about finishing the game.
