Most of you guys are young enough to get in on this war. If you join the Marines, for ex, you’ll get some top-notch training and get to defend civilisation. I am truly envious!
You’d also have the honor of defending the only country founded upon Reason, Logic, and Christian Principles. How cool is that!! (It’d also beat some of that liberalism out of those guys who need it, and you know who you are
Option on being obliterated by home- made-explosive nail-bomb, fighting a war that doesn’t concern you at all, salving our conscience that so many jews died while we didn’t notice in ww2, just because you come from a poor family and like to workout
This is nationalism. Joining the army is nationalism. Nationalism is bad mmkay

How old are you? Has senility already set in?

Actually you really have two choices: train your Marines hard enough to keep them alive in combat and get relieved for hazing or train them like bitches and watch them die. The military has been infiltrated by career pussies and I would figure this to be one of the WORST times to be in the military.
It is easy to disregard the guys that are giving you shit as they are folks that have likely done nothing with their lives but tear down the accomplishments of others, but remember that fighting in Iraq is NOT defending America. It is however defending the freedom of Iraqis and fighting for the freedom of others is in my opinion more noble still than fighting for your own homeland.

This isn’t aboul salving our conscience; it is about doing the right thing. By your logic the holocaust didn’t concern us at all. I guess since we dropped the ball once we should never pick it back up. A genocide here a megolomaniac there, so long as I have enough cash for an Xbox 360 what do I care?
Really? Joining the army is nationalism? I am glad you have got the motivations of a million of America’s finest pegged so well. Standing idle while innocent people die is selfish and cowardly, these are bad traits mmkay?

This country, for the 4077th fucking time, was not founded on Christian principles.
Fighting in Iraq is NOT defending America.
The fact that a teacher is advising young people to join up now is anhorrent.

30 years from now, when you’re with your grandchildren, and they ask: “What’d you do in the fight against terror and the Islamo-fascists, Grandpa?”, would you like to say, “Well, child, while others fought, I was playing my X-Box and whacking off to internet porn.”
Don’t miss this opportunity. I send stuff to soldiers over there and it breaks my heart that I can’t be in the front lines, because of my age (51).

He’s too young to have been Vietnam. I think he JUST missed it by a few years.

Harris, you surprised me with this one, I always though you were pro-war. Goes to show how much you know about a person from reading their messages.
There is a big difference between supporting a war out of necessity and thinking it’s a jolly fun time everyone should try.
Headhunter wrote:

Well then, since you’re in shape and willing, you should be able to join any number of mercenary groups operating in the region. Many of those groups are made up of former British and American soldier, so you’ll be in good company and get paid better than the Army grunts.
So when your grandchildren ask what you were doing during the U.S. invasion and occupation (er, I mean “liberation” of course) of Iraq, you’ll be able to say you did more than post Ayn Rand inspired rants about taxes on an internet forum.

To rephrase this:
You’d have the honor of getting yourself killed so a select few could get their stocks through the roof, and they’ll even send home a wrapped up American flag! You’re not really defending your country, but you could sure as hell tell people you are because people honestly still think that’s what this war is about! What we were founded upon then is a far cry from what we have become. I think Washington would shoot Bush in the face if he could come back, and all the founding fathers would get together to urinate on the Patriot Act.

Go for it, HH, you can do it!

Pooks, best laugh I’ve had all day! My motivation though isn’t about money (though I do love money, anti-Christian as that is). Being a merc is for $$$.
As a teacher, I send young people out into the world and some of them go into the service. I don’t like them, or anyone, to do my fighting for me. Its VERY frustrating.
So, I started this thread to warn you guys not to miss your chance to fight evil. You WILL regret it; not now, but many years from now.
Headhunter wrote:

Not necessarily. Quite often being a merc is for the purpose of getting to fight. A large portion of guys that want to be in the fight cannot because sometimes that’s just how the die is cast. I left the corps the first time because as a grunt I had to watch the push into Baghdad at the enlisted club in Okinawa while I drank beer.
I know a few buddies that re-upped to get into the war and a few more that went Blackwater to do it. I joined a lame ass reserve unit that I found out was going when I became a civilian. Those of us that were young enough found a way to make it into the fight if we wanted to be there.
All things considered though, you are right; these other jackasses accomplish nothing. I could give a shit if they call it invasion or liberation. Saddam was a bad dude that killed a shitload more muslims that we ever could so fuck him. I hope he gets life in prison and finds himself doing the wobbly H with Noriega and Milosovic.

Unfortunate but true. Most of us really don’t care about anyone’s portfolio. We go for our own reasons. It is a crying shame that you guys still don’t respect that.
I concur, Bush is no great friend to liberty and the Patriot Act is really bad but I think your “fuck everyone but us” attitude might get a few fingers pointed in your direction by our founding fathers as well. While some were rather isolationist (Washington, Jefferson), not all were (Adams, Hamilton, Franklin)
