I don’t even understand the point of your article from ‘Politics USA: Real Liberal Politics - No Corporate Money - No Masters.’ Liberals like gun control. What’s their problem here? Well, they are trying to make Sarah Palin look like a hypocrite but they fail utterly. For one thing, everyone(including the NRA) knows that she has done more than anyone else in the state, and probably as much as anyone else in the country, to protect and preserve 2nd Amendment rights. All whilst facing fierce opposition from the Democrats of course.
So they look through their archives for a story back in 2008 about the Alaska State Defense Force. They pick their little cherry then try to weave some ridiculous narrative through it. It’s pure fantasy. Here’s some of the stuff that didn’t fit their thinly veiled agenda:
Tne commander(Brig. Gen. Thomas Westall) of the Alaska State Defense Force was under investigation into complaints about his conduct. An invetigation was launched and the recommendation was that they remove the brigade’s military policing powers. Westall had already stepped down from his position as commander.
“It’s just an opportunity for me to retire. Can’t I do that gracefully?” he said, laughing.

One of those people was air taxi operator Dave Glenn, ticketed by Westall for violating airport rules about dogs.
Things went downhill between the two after that, Glenn said.

Controversy also surrounded Westall in 1989, when he was a top enforcement official for the Federal Aviation Administration in Alaska who shut down eight air carriers in 18 months.
The commission never took official action, he said. He believes Westall stepped down after word got out about the commission wanting him to resign.
“I think the reorganization is going to be just great. I just think it’s time for me to move on” he said.

This article from the Anchorage Daily News was a big more flattering of Brig. Gen. Westall:
'The report critiqued the brigade’s lack of specific policies, especially regarding termination of soldiers, said Campbell, adjutant general for the Alaska National Guard.
It also found that administering a part-time civilian force brings a high liability risk to the state, he said.
[The state’s Military and Veterans Affairs Commissioner Craig Campbell:
“The report does not say Westall was a bad commander,” Campbell said. “The report says the state defense force, it’s a voluntary organization, it’s part time, it’s dedicated volunteers serving their state, but they don’t have the intensity of training, the skill sets the National Guard has.”
In a still-evolving mission shift, most force members will instead serve civil roles in support of the Alaska National Guard, Campbell said. The Guard is taking on MP duties under a new national mission, another major factor in the decision to disarm the brigade.
EDIT: If Palin had not taken the advice to partially disarm this brigade the same leftist media would’ve blasted her for keeping an inefficiently run armed militia with an unstable commander on the state payroll. They probably would’ve called it her own ‘private army’ and suggested she intended to use it to start an insurrection. Doesn’t matter what you do.
