I always like levers, because they’re easy to get on and, after a high rep set where your lungs feeling like they’re going to come out of your throat, you can undo it in a hurry. However, if you like a bunch of different settings, a buckle is eaiser to adjust.
I think I’ll go lever purely for the sake of convenience.
@T3hPwnisher what’s the difference between the 13mm and 10mm?
(Yes, 3mm, obviously, but practically speaking…)
Stiffness/support basically. I love the 13mm because it makes my back bulletproof, but it’s a bitch to break in and can make it tricky to get into position for a deadlift.
so you would recommend the 13 over the 10?
I’m seriously surprised that you don’t a belt.
I have a lower back injury from a non-lifting related incident. If I deadlift or squat without a belt, I will have lower back pain no matter what. It’s not technique. I am ANAL about that. It’s not core weakness, failure to create intra-abdominal pressure or a muscular imbalance either. Maybe it’s because we have little girly waists. I don’t know. But I never train without a belt.
Yup. More belt is always good, haha.
you know, I honestly think that might be a reason why I’m always hurting myself!
haha, cool. Going to go with the StrengthShop 13mm single buckle. Was going to fork out (there’s a pun in there somewhere) for the lever but it’s like twice the price and in the run up to the festive season cash is tight.
Awesome dude. Hope it pans out.
Me too! Who knows? Maybe I’ll end up deadlifting again!
although one more question: a spot of googling reveals breaking them in is a total bitch. Any tips?
Wear them ALL the time. The whole workout. Doesn’t have to be tight, but enough that your sweat and bodyheat allows it to naturally form to your body shape.
aw man, you want me to be that guy? Oh well.

Does wearing a belt protect you from injuries that are related to the SI joint?

I wouldn’t get a strengthshop belt if I were you, they’re really soft compared to other belts. Something about synthetic leather. I’ve tried both the 10mm/13mm(I own one) from strengthshop and they seriously can’t compare to the other brands out there such as Inzer/Wahlanders/Iron Tanks/Beast Genetics(I’ve tried all of them.) If you’re looking for a cheaper one, liftinglarge works fine too. Buy nice or buy twice.
I would imagine so. After all, anything that increases core stiffness should help protect my spine, I would think
appreciate the advice my man but I’m still going with the SS. All the powerlifters I know use them so I figure I might as well.
The American brands cost an absolute fortune to get shipped here anyway.
