YAHTZEE!

a meet? how cool! i’m sure it will be a lot of fun and you will get to meet some very cool people.

I agree about the GMs…

I think the bb is supposed to be right at the hips for the bridges…might make it less awkward that way. And it’s ok to use a towel or what not.

Yeah the diner/strip joint. I picture you as a regular with friendly strippers rubbing your bald head as you walk through the door.
Not sure who it is. Some random internet lovely.

Man I really want to pop my cherry, I want to get the experience, a little nervous about totally making a fool of myself but from what I gather it seems that these things are generally pretty positive experiences. I really think im gonna do it. Leading up to it Im gonna be a spectator for a few to see it all first hand.
Somebody please explain to me why the freakishly strong guys are so terrified of their first powerlifting meet. If I can stand in front of people and struggle to pull a 275 deadlift and nobody laughs, then you’ll have the time of your life. Watch one or two to see what’s going on, then DO IT!!!

what meet/fed are you thinking of doing?

Matty- how local a meet is it

are you thinking of a road trip to albany?

stripbar diner- or strippers in sweats at a diner?
it is dirty jersey it might be just how they dress.

Stripbars make me ill- literally- I have been to a few bachelor parties,
and I was super uncomfortable and grossed out.
might have to do with not drinking

strip bar-alcohol is a frightening thing

Hey Alexus, I hope so its something that I have to do.

MiM - So the BB is not supposed to be crushing my nuts??? A towel is actually a very good idea

Cav - I know I know im just a big chicken I guess.

Pete - I was thinking APA, IPA or WNPF…not that I really know much about these feds Im looking more at dates and meets in my area, there isnt too many meets in the NY/NJ area. Is there feds that as a beginner I should/should not be in?

Git - Only a regular to get my 3am lunch…annnnd maybe a lap dance…maybe lol.

Kev - Agreed, never was comfortable at those places. But I tell you man, they go in usually ordering tea or soup I dont know why, and are often still in their scantily clad garb…its a different atmosphere well because we are munching on malba toast and their not shoving their boobs in my face for money! DURTY JURSEY FTW! Im gonna try and do a meet as local as possible so who knows maybe an Albany roadtrip!

Those all look good. I really don’t think there are ‘bad’ feds out there, but I say go where you are going to enjoy yourself. Not to USAPL bash but they are very strict, and most meets fairly subdued and serious. APA/IPA tend to have music cranking, lifter friendly (still clean strict lifts), and just a lot of fun. If I am going to invest this much time and money into a hobby sport, you better believe I want to have a good time…

The energy at those sorts of meets actually reminds me of hardcore shows back in the days. Lots of test in the air, a gathering of those that don’t necessarily fit in or aren’t ‘normal’ in their neighbors eyes, all to have a lot of fun enjoying together what they enjoy.

Thanks Pete I appreciate the info, I do not want my first experience to be a stuffy one so I will avoid that fed.

Notes: Felt good today but ran out of gas super quick. I didnt think of maxing out today but I felt good, like maybe I had 225x2 in me, but the 225 ended up feeling real heavy. I eeked one out didnt even attempt 2. However I did 135 to failure hit it 20 times, which isnt bad considering the work leading up to it. On a deload Im gonna see if I can do 135x30, to see if I could.

Every thing else went swimmingly.

nice work.

OH pressing machine

135x20 sounds like you warming to that super secret program I have been hearing a lot about…you know the high rep squat program!! Seriously, nice pressing bro…and how the hell do you get 100dbs in place to do seated presses?

ummmm, nope! lol…your saved!

scroll down a leedle bit here:

Thanks Kev and OG, oh and no shot of any high rep squats its against my religion.

Thanks MiM, Im gonna check it out tonight.

Nice work!..and a lot of it.

Go for the 135x30…definitely. I hit 135x30 a while back and couldn’t lift my arms for a while afterwards. Great burn!

Also, since my wife weighs about 135#, I get to tease her that I can OH press her for 30 reps. Life’s little pleasures…

You totally should do one! I was having the exact same feelings and thoughts that you’re having now before I decided to do mine. The first one is just a learning experience and from all that I’ve heard/seen, everyone at meets are really friendly and want to help. They don’t care if your strong or weak they just get excited about new people checking out their sport.

I know I have no chance of “winning” my meet but I’m competing against myself here and it should be a blast. Its also helped me train harder over the past month or so knowing that it’s coming up.

You should most assuredly 100% sign up for one! You’re already a strong dude and I bet you’ll get stronger, have a great time prepping for it and enjoy doing it.

Do it… Do it

Nice pressing Matty.

Kev - God I love that saying “ass coffee” Im now switching weeks on which bench I go heavy on and lessen the volume…it seems to work.

MiM - I do think GMs are mainly a low back exercise, however based on how bent your knee is the hams and glutes certainly come into play. I tend to keep a very slight knee bend and keep my back arched AMAP wherein the hams and glutes get a great stretch espescially during the eccentric portion of the exercise. As far as the bridges go I do them weighted with a barbell being placed on my upper quads right below the family jewels lol.

Git - Are you referring to the post in Ddays log, if so the diner/strip joint is in dirt jersey. Who is that BTW?

Ddot/Dday - I will be sending an ACE over right now…
Umm on the glute bridge with the bar across hips I have 3 female clients who weigh around 145 use 185 for sets of 6. I use 315 and arch hard enough that the bar actually comes off of my hips…just sayin’ LOL serious really up the weights on these and really get onto your traps on the end of the movement.

If you’re worried about not winning your first contest, bear in mind there should be a Novice division for each weight class and you should be able to do pretty well for that.
